Morgan St. Jean - Tell Me Not To Go (music review)

in #music6 years ago (edited)

“‘Tell Me Not To Go’ is about that make-or-break moment in a relationship when you finally let your walls down and ask your partner to fight for you,” Morgan St. Jean said about her single. Her lyrics and tone portray a desperate need, perfectly presenting us with her story.

This song gives vibes of recent Taylor Swift albums with the way she mixes relaxed, slow melodies with a more powerful chorus. There’s a lot of electronic instrumentals and fades that keep the song modern. She works well to use silence before bringing in the chorus - a great way to emphasise the power of the lyrics.

The bridge is incredibly catchy with is repetitive lyrics and overlaying harmonies, giving it strength and a build throughout. Many different melodies are used within the track that adds a lot of interest you can discover every time you listen, making sure you never get bored of it.

Slow and elongated melodies give a darker feel to the song - the type you’d imagine the music video to be filmed in a forest or fairytale setting. Morgan St. Jean's amazing vocals are soft but rich, quite reminiscent of Pink which brings that element of strength.
