Jericho Hill - The Suicide Jack (music review)

in #music6 years ago (edited)

Jericho Hill, resident troubadours of hard rock, post grunge, neo Maiden (my new favorite term) fist-to-face, guitar-induced mayhem have released a new album and single. The latter, Take Notice is a fury of classic metal elements coupled with modern vocals and Tool-esque rhythmic qualities.

The vocal is believable and expertly delivered as on every track of this album, The Suicide Jack. Jericho Hill, hometown Everett, WA, are masters of metal genres and know just how to simmer them all for their own magical concoctions. This single is metal gold and actually there’s not a bad song on the album (I love when that happens).

The real story here is: This whole album is filled with incredible guitar work. The tracks weave their way through Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Disturbed, you name it, no gratuitous shredding though, no solos for the sake of solos, this playing is thought-out, creative, written, purposeful, hell, it’s even bluesy in sections. On a few tracks, the lead guitarist even steps outside the comfort zone note and effect-wise (most notably Fuel To The Fire).

Jericho Hill

The tones on The Suicide Jack intro, so Deep Purple or something, may have to call in an expert! Be Still My Beating Heart/And She Runs solos, are melodic and tiny little pieces of music by themselves. Sleeper track is Devil in Disguise, a hidden gem that I have been enjoying since I first heard it last week.

Jericho Hill will earn a bright place in your soul and your very darkest of playlists.
