DevilsRadio - Great Day [ForTheLoveOfBands review] #HardRock

in #music6 years ago (edited)

Right off the top of this new single by Ontario Rockers DevilsRadio, you will get an instant sense of their mantra. Which is, to borrow from their press release, that this band “doesn’t need a guitar to deliver consistently catchy riffs that will keep you rocking all night long”. Opening with a dirty bass groove that delivers heavy riffage from the jump, there’s certainly something to be said for bucking tradition in this case!

The power chorus immediately revs up thereafter, producing a proclamation that with the sun up and the fuzz up, it is already a “Great Day”. As stripped down as the production on this banger might seem, it is that relative simplicity which helps anchor the message. Sometimes the simplest things in life are taken for granted and DevilsRadio are here with a statement song, to help ensure that doesn’t happen to them, or us.

There’s some stellar vocal range being exhibited here that is echoed throughout, but it’s especially present in the sections of “oooh’s” that reach for that upper register - all while the Canadian Rock trio work to compliment each other, quite ably. While the vocals swell, soar and stir - the pounding accents of the backbeat expertly manage to both increase and decrease the tension, rounded out by the raunchy bass-infused debauchery of the twisting and turning lead groove.

The Devil is most definitely in the details, so turn up the dial on this one and take a moment to revel in the deceptively simple, skull-rattling indulgence of this uplifting but diabolical soundscape.
