It's All Right With Me (the Jazztet’s version)

in #music6 years ago (edited)

The Jazztet: Benny Golson (tenor sax), Art Farmer (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), McCoy Tyner (piano), Addison Farmer (bass) and Lex Humphries (drums). From the album Meet the Jazztet (1960).

With Gerry Mulligan, Farmer appeared in two films and toured Europe again, this time as part of Jazz at the Philharmonic, which helped him gain an international recogniton. In New York he played with Lester Young and from the mid-1950s he appeared in recordings by arrangers of that time because of his reputation for being able to play anything.

In 1959 he formed the Jazztet with tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, which they dissolved in 1962. He then formed a trio with guitarist Jim Hall and bassist Steve Swallow from 1962 to 1964 with whom he toured Europe twice. In 1965 and 1966 he continued touring Europe and when he returned to the United States formed a group with saxophonist Jimmy Heath.

At first the double bass and the drums make an introduction, and Fuller begins to expose the theme. Then Golson and Farmer join him, and a dialogue is established between the first musician and the other two. It’s Fuller who starts his solo with quick and choppy phrases, but very creative staying within his limits, while Golson and Farmer make a sound mattress underneath. Then he exchanges two-bar solos with Humphries and the group re-exposes this theme in which Fuller has been the main character.
