RE: The Rich, Deep Essence Of Hip Hop Culture (And Magical Ways Music Touches The Soul)...

in #music7 years ago

Well, for me it was classic music, the beatles, the beegees, James Brown, ABBA, John Lennon, Micheal Jackson and those golden oldies my grandparents were listing to every sunday morning earlier than you would like... That definitely left a huge timeless imprint.

When we first arrived here when I was 7 years old, I got hooked on heavy metal, at the same time being pulled between classic and rap music while growing up. Can you picture this? Me wearing a AC/DC t-shirt with sneakers loved by rappers, carrying a mini boombox with Mozart kickin out of the speakers?

A great shift took place I think somewhere in the late 80's when Run DMC and Aerosmith came out with a remake of "Walk this way". Then came along "Pump up the volume" from a group name MARRS. House music was added to my growing collection of audiocassettes :) So yeah, on the dancefloor at some parties you had to switch from being ghetto fabulous to being a headbanger or a Euro dude wearing a training suite ...LOL

As you see my inspirations came in many forms and at different times in my life but if I must choose one it would definitely be classic music first and heavy metal second and rap third.

Classic music, metal and rap calm me down. My "goto" whenever I wish to turn off the world around me.
Too many why's but it boils down to one thing... Anything that sounds good and makes you feel good...is good...even if it's bad :)

Thanks for taking me back into time for the past few minutes!

Lol. That is quite the visual!

And interesting that heavy metal still calms you.

Your welcome. :-)
