introducing my weekly hotspot

As a big lover of 1950's music, I wanted to start a series of blog's profiling the great musicians of the 50's.Each week I will be choosing an artist from the 1950's Rock and Roll era and writing a profile all about them. This will include a track of my choice by the selected artist. They will be some statistics and a biography too. (subject to available knowledge) So sit back, relax and prepare to be inspired as we go BACK TO THE 50'S

Jerry Lee Lewis

Jerry Lee Lewis was born on September 29, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana, the United States and is a singer-songwriter, musician and pianist.
Jerry made his first recording "Crazy Arms" in 1956 for sun records which sold 300,000 copies. He shot to fame worldwide after releasing the song "Whole Lotta Shakin Going on". He later went on to release hits like "Great Balls of Fire", "Breathless" and "High School Confidential" which was the title song to the movie with the same name.
His career went into turmoil and his popularity diminished when after his marriage to his 13-year-old cousin Myra Gale Brown was realised by the British media while he was touring. This caused an uproar and Jerry was forced to cancel his tour after only 3 live shows. This scandal saw Jerry's music blacklisted from radio and he went from $10,000 a night to just $250 for a show, only working in pub's and club's.
Jerry Lee Lewis struggled on and after not being able to relaunch his previous success, despite several attempts, he chose to take his music in a different direction and started releasing country-western songs. This reignited his career and he had 30 song's reach the top 10 in the country-western chart's, with several number 1 hits including "There Must Be More To Love Than This" and "Me and Bobby McGee".

Lewis has won several gold records and Grammy awards for his music in both Rock and Country and is now recognised as a pioneer to Rock and Roll. He is last surviving member of Sun Records' Million Dollar Quartet, which also included
Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Carl Perkins.
Still, to this day, Jerry is often doing live performance's and in may 2013 he opened his own club in Memphis, Tennesse.
In 1989 a biographical film was released starring Dennis Quade, called "Great Ball's Of Fire".
