To start with a bang I've chosen The Beatles and their Helter Skelter. Many say that this was a first heavy metal song. I disagree but it doesn't matter because the song is weirdly amazing. I like it a lot.
These four guys were geniuses, chameleons of music. They probably tried every genre and kind of popular music even before it was named.
Anyways, loud guitars and screaming is a great start. More melodic or not noise of a metal variety is coming your way. I promise you some loud fun :)

Do you think there was a heavy metal song before this? Or do you just think this is too melodic to be considered heavy metal? What would you consider the first heavy metal?
