New Generation of OPM
The Original Pilipino Music is now back on its track. Thanks to the undying support of OPM lovers especially the Millenials who are actively participating in sharing local music on their social media. In this blog, I'm going to share my top 5 OPM bands in this generation.
1.) Ben&Ben (formerly the Benjamins)
source
Is one of the fast-rising indie folk-pop band in the country. Prior to its formation as a band, the dynamic twin Filipino singer-songwriters Paolo and Miguel Guico were best known for the song "Tinatangi" which won 2nd runner-up and Best Music Video at the PhilPop Music Festival (the most prestigious songwriting competition in the country) in 2016. Currently, the band's lineup consists of Paolo and Miguel Guico, Poch Barretto on electric guitar, Jam Villanueva on drums, Agnes Reoma on bass, Patricia Lasaten on keyboards, Toni Muñoz and Andrew de Pano on percussions and Keifer Cabugao on violin. (they need 1 other member to become Ben&Ben10 haha kidding).

The IV of Spades bringing the '70s disco genre that will surely make you groove when their music started playing. Coordinated with their ‘70s-inspired polos and blazers, yellow tinted sunnies look. They won the recent Dreams Come True with AirAsia. The band emerged victorious after garnering the most number of streams on Spotify in a nine-week period. Did you know that the Ben&Ben is a big fan of Autotelic? Who doesn't harbor some affection for them? With their heart-swelling synth-pop that sounds comfortably close to home vibes that will make you an instant fan when you heard them playing.

4.) The Juans

The Juans is not your typical sing and dance boy band group because they play their own instruments. Some of their songs are danceable tune that takes you to a scenario that is drawn to a stranger, feeling like you've known each other and you dance together as if you own the world. The Juans consists of keyboardist and vocals Carl Guevarra, vocals and guitar Japs Mendoza, guitarist Jiad Arroyo, bassist Jason de Mesa and Daniel Grospe on drums.

Why do we need to support OPM?
It's simply because foreign artists dominate the local concert scene, where there is no month in a year where foreign arists would be holding a performance in our country, obliterating our local artists. Let's support our own local artists, tangkilikin natin ang sariling atin!
HAVE A GOOD DAY!

The Juan's lang ang aware ako. They are good although underrated din less people kasi ang nakakapansin.

Mas una kong na discover yung BenandBen kesa Sud. Thank you for featuring me on steemitfamilyph's feaftured posts, it's an honor :) im going to make another blog about our OPM soon if may time na. maraming salamat po! God bless! :)
Great selection! A lot of my friends have recommended these bands to me but my stubborn ass just won't listen haha! I love opm but I got stuck with old-school, perhaps, classic ones like Eheads then later bloomers like Hale, Cueshe, PNE, Kamikazee, Moonstar88, etc. I think the latest I have come close to is Gracenote. Haha but I heard Languyin of Autotelic and I loved it. Balisong is originally by Rivermaya but sung by The Juans in 100 Tula Para kay Stell but I love it just the same. I should listen to these bands soon. :D
I just recently discovered Autotelic thru BenandBen, because I'am a big fan of them. Maybe i can create another article about another local artists soon if time permits. And i heard the Balisong in 100 Tula Para kay Stela didnt know that it's from Rivermaya, thank you @saiyanide and maybe it's time for you to explore the New Gen of OPM :)
thanks! Looking for more songs in Tagalog so I can learn!
@nomadicsoul, thank you :) if you want i can tag you on my next blog about OPM. but for starter you can try those songs :)
Yes that would be awesome!! 😀 thank you!!
my pleasure! :)
It is really new to me. I don't even know this group exist. Than you for the information. @emjecee
welcome to OPM club @barttalks :)
I don't know what some of the vids are singing about but the music is good, those first two though Ben&Ben strike me a bit as irish/scottish and the song is very folky right up my alley.
IV of Spades though I would say is my favourite from the list. If I hear local music anything I think of the rubbish these people in South Africa produce , this is far from that. Glad I now discovered some new artists for my playlist.
Im glad that you like it mate, Im a big fan of Ben&Ben and they're just amazing try listening Leaves, it's relaxing :). The other songs are in FIlipino (our Language) well the song is all about love.
The IV of Spades is suuuuuuuuuuuper cool, the funky-beat and they're instrument-wise players, super eaaaargasm!
Tangkilikin ang sariling atin ♥
