Underrated Albums MIND FUNK - MINDFUNK (and the story how i had a binge with metallica)
Mindfunk is the debut album of the band Mind Funk
The band was actually called Mind Fuck, but they had to change their name because the album was a major release on the epic label.
MindFunk consisted of former members of MOD, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Celtic Frost, Uniform Choice & Ministry
The Band & Album had a lot of traction in the early ninetees, but somehow they never really broke trough.
Their catalogue consists of three albums and some singles & EP’s
Albums
Mind Funk (1991) (Epic)
Dropped (1993) (Megaforce Records)
People Who Fell from the Sky (1995) (Music for Nations)
Singles and EPs
Touch You (EP, 1991) (Epic)
"Big House Burning" (Single, 1991) (Epic)
The European tour for this album is also the reason how i got to party with Metallica
*That actually sounds more interesting then it is, and it was in 1991 (so no mobile phones and photo proof, so you just have to take my word for it)
It is 1991 and Mind Funk is gaining some traction because of the major label promotion of their self titled debut. They had a small club tour trough europe, with a unique concert in Amsterdam on july the 21st. Which i attended because because i was working with the manager of the support act (Dear Henk, i still hope you rest in peace my friend),
around the date of the show, there was also another band in the neighborhood, promoting their new upcoming (and world wide mega selling breaktrough) release, and they traveled to Amsterdam to see the MindFunk show. That band was Metallica.
I was aware that they would be attending because of my friend Henk, the manager, who was also good friends with the dutch promotor that kind of launched metallica’s career in the european underground, he later booked both acts on his festival trough the ninetees.
Anyway, i drift off my story ....
long story short, Metallica came in, and once the crowd got a little aware, they had a huge gathering around them. Like flies to honey. I watched this weird event from a distance ... as always i observe.
after the MindFunk show we all (the entourage i was with, and the metallica guys) went to a metal night club in the city, i think it was called korsakoff. Anyway, i was a little drunk and stoned and so the memory gets more blurry and hazy, but i hung around with jason, who was standing in the back, a little waay back from the popularity contest surrounding lars and james. And as an observer, that is also the place which i like best in a crowd.
I remember we had some drinks and laughs, he must have thought i was quite a weird asshole ...so the memory is nice
lolz
