The song was released on the 4th of February 1974 and was a sympathetic portrayal of the life and demise of Marilyn Monroe. In 1997, the song was rewritten and sang at Princess Diana's funeral and the song went on to peak at Number 1 worldwide.

I woke up to the rude and somewhat familiar news of loosing someone to the cold hands of death. ("I grew up on the streets and lost quite some number of friends while growing up and the news always leaves me wondering what the essence of life truly is.")
Rest in Peace @Onos. The news of your death is so sad and unexpected and till now, I am wondering what went wrong and how a life so young could be cut so short in this untimely manner. To everyone who has lost someone to the cold hands of death, I pray God grants you the fortitude to bear the lost.
We never truly know how quick and noiseless life can come to a halt until we learn of the death of someone we know. When things like these happen, we get pained in more ways than one and then we try going through the moments we had with the ones we will never see again.
