Eurovision still exists???!!!

For my followers who are not Europeans and don't know what is Eurovision, it is a song contest.

The most countries of Europe are participating in it, along with some guests like Australia or US. Each country has to submit a new, original song that is made specially for Eurovision. This was really popular song contest, but I have to say that I haven't heard anything good or interesting about Eurovision at least for 15 years. Many years ago, this was extremely popular, world famous festival and songs were appreciated. People loved Eurovision Song Contest and now many of young people don't even know what it is. And why should they, Eurovision became to be a circus and carnival of bad taste.

Eurovision Song Contest became to be a festival of songs that will never be listened after the contest.

In it's 62 years long history, the festival produced some really popular and great songs that became evergreens. But communication and technology revolution caused the fall of popularity of Eurovision. It became like any other song contest, but there are still people who watch the Eurovision each year. There is even a song genre called "Eurovision song". It has to be theatrical with barefoot singer and you can see firework around her/him during the refrain.

That's why I don't appreciate Eurovision so much, but it brings nice memories of the past times.

I remember early 90's, when my whole family was in front the TV watching the Eurovision. The quality of the music was different back then and all that you could hear was good. With the time, those songs became to be false and each song that you can hear sounds exactly the same.

I haven't heard anything about Eurovision for few years and I surprised when I saw on TV yesterday that was semifinal evening!

And Croatian singer passed in finale which will be in Saturday. I will probably not watch it, but I would be glad if Jacques Houdek make good results. It is one of the most talented Croatian singers, but looks funny with all that fat on his body. However, he's been trying to get on Eurovision for at least 16 - 17 years and now he succeeded. He has very unusual voice skill, so, if you like, listen to his entry, the song is on English language. The contest is in Kiev this year. Thank you!

Sort:

"but looks funny with all that fat on his body" - dobro si me nasmijao....

Neka, neka, zaslužija je više

For people who don't know there are so many Jacques Houdek fat jokes. Here is one.

What is the shortest story ever told?

Jacques and three piglets.

Eurovision is a joke these days, but once there were some great songs like this one.

Lol, that's true

It is just a political thing now, and for that reason I can't bring myself to watch it anymore!

Yes, there is a lot political influence about the winning song

Exactly, Eurosong-festival has become a propaganda tool. Especially the last 3 years this became incredible obvious.

Good post Dumar, but you would have thought by now this contest should have been scrapped. Some countries are miles behind in music compared to the UK and America. I think people only watch now so they pull apart or have a laugh

Thanks for the comment but I think that ways of music spreads quickly and I don't that US or UK music is special, maybe production is more quality... on Eurovision people actually try some new ways but it all looks like a big circus, like you said, for good laugh
