AskSteemit: What songs or bands do you have a strong personal or emotional connection to?

in #music7 years ago

Why, hello there Steemians! I decided to gank @Acidyo's AskSteemit tag for a minute (Hopefully he doesn't mind.) so I could make a post to ask something that's been on my mind the last few days. The question being do you guys and gals have any strong emotional or personal connection to music you listen to? Specifically a band or certain song that really resonates with you or means something dear to you? I ask this because I heard a song the other day that I hadn't listened to in awhile, and it really hit me heavily when we were in the car, and I actually got quite sad/depressed for a short awhile after hearing it.

For anyone curious, it's called Hey Mister by Miss May I. The song has a lot to do with not having a father around to see you live your life and become the man that you are, spending your time inwardly searching for him. It's something which hits home since my dad killed himself when I was just 7 years old. The song has always affected me and resonated with me in a small way, but I just took a big step/change in my life and hearing that song right afterwards just got to me more than it ever has before. So, it just got me thinking a bit about if this kind of stuff happens to people more often than not.

I have others songs that I have a more happy connection with though as well, don't get me wrong. Songs like Metallica's Master of Puppets for example has a lot of memories with it from my teenage years as I was just getting into heavier music with Metallica and Pantera being my entry way into it thanks to my friends. That song brings up memories of not only jamming with my friends in a garage or a basement pretty often, but weird debates we had and other memories of us being dumb ass kids and doing things we shouldn't have been doing. So, while not having any emotional ties to the lyrics themselves, the song brings up a lot of personal memories for me of good times growing up.

So, yeah, what about you all? Do any of you have a song that has a big personal connection for you or brings up emotions that you thought were buried deep down inside? If so, why don't you share them down below and tell me about them. I'd love to hear it and discuss this kind of stuff for anyone who is interested! I'm gonna link the two songs I just talked about down below (with lyrics attached to the video if possible.), and I'd definitely recommend linking any song you want to talk about so I can check it out if you'd like! Hope everyone doesn't mind this post, but it's just something I wanted to get off my chest and discuss.

Your story made me think of this clip- it is also a song with a similar theme. For background on the clip check the Reply All podcast.

Yeah, I'm definitely seeing a similar theme with this song. I've heard this one before, but, man, it's been a long time since then. I'll look up that podcast here in a bit since I'm interested on the backstory!

I saw in my comment section on my blog that you wrote something to go along with this, but I can't see it once I actually come to the comment. I believe you need to space your video away from your text for it to display :) Gonna listen to the song now, however.

Ahh that’s why- I’ll keep it in mind - I’m new here :-)

thanks for post please continue

Hey @deadspace - is #asksteemit something @Acidyo set up or something? I ask because I've been treating as if it were a more general Q&A tag - do let me know if that's bad etiquette / something to be avoided.

Nah, I think you're fine to use it. I just never saw the tag until he made a post with it treating it like the askreddit subreddit, and I was just making sure he didn't mind and figured he'd chime in if he wanted me to change it. Gonna assume you/I are fine to use it for general questions though :)

Sweet, always good to check!

Thanks for music related content. Because I am a crazy music lover.
