The Art of Music: History, Importance, and Aesthetic Value of Music.

in #music6 years ago

Hello everyone.
Today I'm going to be discussing music. Have you ever listened to a particular song, and felt it reverberate in the depths of your being? Felt the beat coursing through your bone marrow on a straight path to your soul; transporting you to a whole new world? I know I have...

What is music? Why do we feel such strong emotions whenever we hear a particular song, or a particular musical instrument? Why do we sometimes burst into singing and dancing whenever we hear and the ting goes skkkryyaaa! Lol.. Let's find out!

  • What Is Music? Wikipedia will tell you that music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound organised in time. I define music as a time machine! It sends waves to our brains; transporting us to a different world. The elements of music are rhythm, melody, harmony, form, texture, and timbre fused together. The style of music we listen to and our emotions at that point in time, will determine the kind of world we teleport to.
Personally, I listen to all kinds of music, so far it is able to speak to me. I'm not too selective, but I am a sucker for slow sad songs. I find them beautiful in a dark perverse sort of way. Slow music rocks!

Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness. - Maya Angelou

  • History Of Music: All people of the world, no matter how isolated from civilization they may be, have their own form of indigenous music. Music is an intricate part of the society. The origin of music itself is not well documented and cannot be traced to particular recorded time, but studies suggests that the first form of music may have originated from Africa... (Yaay! Africa my Africa) ...and then evolved into a basic aspect of human existence.
It is probable that the first musical instrument was the human voice itself. Because it has different tones and rhythms which produces an array of sounds from singing, whistling, humming, coughing, and even yawning. Musical era's can be classified into five, i.e...
  1. Pre-historical Music
  2. Ancient Music
  3. Music of Greece
  4. Music in the Biblical Period
  5. Early Music

  • Importance and Aesthetic Value of Music: Man has a very intimate relationship with music and that's why music can be found in every country of the world. We have so many genres like rock, pop, jazz, soul, ambience, misc, hip-hop, rhythm and blues, instrumentals, classical music, etcetera etcetera..
You don't need a degree in music to understand why it constitutes such a basic need for humans. It is a form of expression; a message sent to both the listeners and the artiste. It is beautiful, heartfelt and transcendent.
