A Marketing Tip for Musicians.

Many musicians find it difficult to get out of their limited and crowded space. It's good to start playing in bars and pubs yet making quality jump is not easy.

A friend of mine, Andrea, is a DJ and producer. He graduated in sound engineering and is passionate about underground sounds.

Four years ago he moved to London where the "clubbing" culture is well established. He plays in well-known venues, but in order to make the leap of quality he needs to implement a marketing strategy first.



He recently realized this and made the smart move of contacting me knowing I am in the marketing business. He explained to me how the music industry works. Record labels, Soundcloud, Beatport and all that shit.
I went home, studied the market and came up with something I think every musician should do. 

Not only DJs, this is for everyone.

Disclaimer: This is not the only marketing strategy we are implementing as of now, just part of it.

Everyone knows Casey Neistat, the youtuber guy with cool sunglasses and a boosterboard (he's a cool guy, I watch his vlogs every day). Well the plot of his vlogs is perpetually accompanied by music. At the end of each video, for the respect of others and for legal causes, he always inserts the author of the song. Every youtuber does it.

Guess what, the artist I'm listening to in this very moment, as I write this article, just happens to be a guy who was featured in one of Casey's vlogs: Joey Pecoraro (check him out actually, I always listen to his shit while writing Steemit posts. Very inspiring and relaxing)

Now, what I'm saying here is to reach shamelessly every youtuber!
If you make rock music, you might don't wanna reach out to Casey Neistat nor Roman Atwood. Find someone that makes videos correlated to your music style


Be polite. Here's an example of how you should contact them:
Hello "name", I'm "name" and make "genre" music. I noticed you make good use of music in your videos and I figured you might be interested in my stuff. Kind regards. *link to your soundcloud/youtube or whatever*

Keep it simple. Don't ask for money, that would be stupid. Your music would be exposed to millions of people so stick with that. Money comes later on. Don't be greedy.

You could also reach out to smaller youtubers, they will appreciate the fact that you thought of them even though they aren't quite famous. Plus, their email inbox is surely way less caotic.

Of course it is not the main strategy for success in the music industry, yet I genuinely believe it could make the difference in order to stand out of the huge competition surrounding it.
