THE ROLLING STONES INTRODUCE HOWLIN WOLF - 1965

in #music8 years ago (edited)

With the release the Rolling Stones latest album (featuring entirely blues covers), i thought it was a good time to go back and recollect a time when the Stones used their power to bring the blues legend Howlin' Wolf onto stage in front of hundreds of screaming fans.

The Stones have always been bluesmen at heart, their debut album was mostly covers as well, and similarly to the way the Beatles loved soul, they fashioned their craft from there. In 1965, they could've released anything, but chose a cover of Willie Dixon's "Little Red Rooster". Some US radio stations banned it due to sexual content, thinking the rooster in the song wasn't actually a bird.

When they were scheduled to appear on Shindig in 1965 to perform, they used this opportunity and the pull they had at this period, to bring on the mighty Howlin' Wolf to perform, and sat at his feet and idolised him.

Incredible footage that i still love.
