His death comes days after his Billboard Music Award nomination for best electronic / dance music album of the year, for his latest opus Avicii (01).

He suffered from health problems since 2014

Avicii had been suffering from acute pancreatitis in the past, mainly due to excessive consumption of alcohol and energy drinks. After having the gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014, he had to cancel a series of concerts to recover.

"My life was a crazy trip. I started to compose when I was 16 years old. I started touring when I was 18 years old. From that moment, I just jumped in 100%, "he said in an interview with Billboard in 2016.
Two years ago, he surprised his fans by announcing his retirement: "I decided that this tour 2016 would be the last and that it would be my last shows," he wrote justifying this decision by the desire to to do "more [of things] of his life".
