Synthwave is a thing and it's getting bigger!!

So I guess you all watched that ''little'' TV show called ''Stranger Things'' and got surprised how many nostalgia is pumped in that show. Well a big part of the Stranger Things aesthetic is music called Synthwave. We can talk for days about the roots of synthwave but one thing is for shure, it is just fantastic. You can call that music a phenomenon if you like. Let me try and define the genre. Electronic music based on vintage synths that evolve around the 80's driven melodies and mixing style. Basically retro music made with DAW (digital audio workstation) ...so vague :)

The style reached wider popularity in the early 2010's with the emergence of Kavinsky and the 2011 film Drive by Nicolas Winding Refn.

Aesthetically, Synthwave gives a retro futuristic atmosphere often linked to cyberpunk. Obviously nostalgic for 1980's pop-culture, fans and musicians alike openly celebrate that decade. In a symbiotic relationship films like Kung Fury, Turbo Kid and Drive as well as games such as Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the Hotline Miami series and Trials of the Blood Dragon have helped Synthwave grow more popular while also in some cases being a result of the 1980's nostalgia created by the Synthwave genre.

Now synthwave is getting bigger and bigger, artsits emerging on a daily basis, community getting more and more involved in promoting new stuff. Just go to bandcamp and search for synthwave as a genre and you'll see what I mean, it's crazy :)

Now here's a list of some noticeable synthwave music artist, a must hear! Lazerhawk, Miami Nights 1983, Actrazer, Mega Drive, Mitch Murder, Power Glove, Perturbator, GosT, Dan Terminus, Carpenter Brut, Futurecop!, Gunship Com Truise.

This is only a little tip of a much greater iceberg!!! I personally am also making synthwave music for almost two years now, and the amount of great artists I met out there is just incredible. Who knows, maybe you will also get hooked on a feeling, and if you are a musician, maybe start producing synthwave ;)
