Remembering some of the reggae greats

in #music7 years ago

I woke up today to Jimmy Cliff's I Can See Clearly Now , a 1993 song which is a soundtrack of Cool Running, a 1993 American comedy sports film. The lyrics is clearly upbeat

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
bright (bright) sunshiny day.
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
bright (bright) sunshiny day.

Ironically, it's raining so hard outside. The rain outside is sure not going to stop any time soon. So I took the moment to remember some of the stars whose life's work brought us a little sunshine in our darkness but sadly met a not so sunny end.

First on my list is Lucky Dube.

Lucky Philip Dube born 3rd August 1964 was a South African reggae musician and Rastafarian. He recorded 22 albums in English, Zulu and Afrikaans in a 25-year period and was reggae artist. Dube was shot and killed in the Johannesburg on the 18th October of 2007 by car jackers. He was only 43.

Next is Peter Tosh. peter-tosh-3.jpg

Peter Tosh, born Winston Hubert McIntosh in 19th October, 1944 was a Jamaican reggae musician. He was part of The Wailers with the legendary reggae artiste,Bob Marley. He was killed during a home invasion in 1987. He was just 42.

Next is the legendary Robert Nesta Marley or popularly known as Bob Marley.

He needs no introduction, born Robert Nesta Marley on 6th February 1945. Popular known as father of raggae. He was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma in 1977 and died on 11th May 1981 in Miami USA. He was only 36

Jimmy Cliff is still very much with us here on earth, 69 years presently. Though the above artistes may not be here with us, but their songs lives on giving us that bright sun shiny day even on a rainy day like today :)
