Music and Arithmetic
Do you ever know that a musician is a mathematician? In mathematics we have whole number likewise in music we have a whole note regarded as semibreve. Other derivatives are carved out of it. Semibreve note is very important in the riduments of music.
It has four beats and technically it is regarded as whole note. The symbol is like an an egg or oval in shape.
Mathematics engage counting, music also is founded on counting. Semibreve has four counts. The whole numbers are in succession, musical beats and time are also in succession. The regular succession is termed "rythm". Rythm is regular
and steady, flowing in series and sequence with which music is projected. Series and Sequence are mathematical terms. These terms are applicable too either directly or indirectly.
Other musical notes are minim, crotchet, quaver, semi quaver, Demi semi quaver , Hemi Demi Semi quaver . They have their beats and values too. These shall be fully discussed in the next write up.
Composers, other musicians - instrumentalist are mathematician, because accuracy, timing and evaluation cannot be separated from their works.
