Chronicles of Alan : Sound Engineer Anyone 54321.... LOUD

in #music8 years ago

In my last article on this Subject I mentioned that I had met a Band called Tryst , with Cedric , Ian and Freddie .

Our first Gig together was at a Biker Club just down the Hill apiece from the Brixton Tower , also below the SABC Buildings . Cannot recall the name of the Club but did a number of Gigs there .
Repertoire was mainly older Classic Rock ,a bit of Blues and quite a few songs written by Cedric

Cedric looked like a Mongol Warrior from the good old days when the Horde’s raided Asia.

Bolts through the Bridge of his nose, Shaved Head except for the Pony tail at the back and a centre Beard at the base of the jaw , very intimidating in looks ,but a really nice Guy. Played Guitar like a mother, despite the centre finger on his fretting (left) hand having most of the finger missing!
Ian on Bass played left handed, but obviously learned to play on a right handed Bass as his lefty was strung upside down! ( more on this later)
Freddie the drummer seemed quite regular, had a day job at a bank

I think he repossesses Little Old Ladies Houses and leaves them in the street!

( a private joke, not true)
So the first Gigs with Tryst , went well , The Bike club was very appreciative , Sound was good , and this forged a good relationship between Tryst and Myself.
For any bassist’s out there reading this Ian was very good , but also liked to Slap, with the Bass strung upside down , the thumb was hitting the thin strings, try it, you cannot imagine how bad this sounds! He hits the notes perfectly but you are not hearing what you expect!
They held the Thousand Bike Show at Tarlton Raceway ( The Main Drag Strip in SA) . Huge area , so I doubled up on my rig . Probably had 6 KW there. I set up Freddie First , asked for alternating Kick and Snare hits .
This is where I mentioned in a previous article that he was doing both very lightly . Set up Vocal Mikes for Cedric and Ian , Instrument Mike in front of Cedrics Marshall and a DI Cable from Ian’s Hughes&Kettner Bass Amp .
As they started playing , I screamed Stop , and ran for the Desk to kill the Mains,

the 8 x 18” Speakers in use had nearly jumped out of their respective cabinets !

This has never happened again, ever, as I watch what Drummers do when I set them up , and suggest they hit the Drums like they belong to someone else! Strangely ,this always works!
The rest of that Day went rather well, in between , they had some Drag Racing , Wayne Heasman borrowed someone’s Suzuki Hayabusa and set a time that no one came near for the day.

I had plenty of Adventures with Tryst , Cedric is also a gifted Artist , I will endeavour to get him onto Steemit as well.

Till Next Time My Friends

I am curious about all your @awgbibb writing about #Chronicle_of_Alan
This is Part 1

A Chronicle is a history ( usually in Time Line Order).

I am actually writing about my own life , but in order only as far as the sub title's go .

As you will read, I have actually done a lot of things!

Thank you for your interest.
