Intera Release review by Clara Tehrani

Portuguese collective Intera celebrates its first anniversary with Intera Vol. 1, an 8-track compilation released on January 8, 2019.

The compilation features a group of underground artists either from or residing in Portugal, and offers, through the stylistically-wide range of music they produce, a different perspective on a scene that has recently jumped to the international community’s attention. Even though words such as happening, thriving and diverse are often used when describing the micro-boom that alternative dance music has had in Portugal, the reality on the ground can be quite different: more often than not, one will find the same names in the same places playing the same music.

It’s in this context that Intera was created a little over a year ago by Caroline Lethô and Telma Correia (together with BLEID, who has now left the project since moving to Berlin mid-last year), to promote diversity without borders and labels. After all, the collective is not about ego or genre, and neither is it about gender (despite the collective being run by two ladies); it is about good quality music and giving a voice to those who struggle to be heard. And this compilation does just that. Source, preview, and texts about individual tracks and artists

Intera Team About The Release

A year has passed by since its birth. Intera blossomed as a conjoined dream of celebrating local music and artists without barriers, promoting a conduct of collaboration, growth and inclusivity, while taking over club spaces as a medium of debate about the challenges of operating within an industry with lack of female visibility.

For an extended period of time, we have followed and worked with most of these artists and friends whom we strongly admire and keep on watching. Growing, developing and creating more and more.

The result of this alliance is a solid, diverse, 8-track long voyage that highlights and celebrates every artist’s background and individuality. From the Ashok Leylund’s and ppueblo’s wistful House, to the hypnotic Acid and Techno by Trigher and Valody, the strongly driven Electro by zero_one, the dreamy, high-tempo Breakbeat by Tsuri, the banger Bass-like Breaks by Kerox or the R&B infused, Footwork inspired tune by Caroline Lethô.
Each of these tracks feels like a constant surprise.
