The Morningside - The Wind, The Trees And The Shadows Of The Past (2007) #Review

in #music6 years ago
Hi friends, in this opportunity I come to present and obviously recommend, the first album of "The Morningside", a band a little unknown. They are of Russian origin, and their music sounds like a metal doom, very melancholic with some black metal dyes, very short the latter. His music is really a journey, with a very natural and melancholic theme. Very good riffs, very melodic and melancholic, also with some really fascinating voices, they combine perfectly with the idea of the band

This debut album of the Russians, has a very well-defined conceptual idea. With a really long name, which means that the end of autumn is approaching, and winter is approaching. Although many believe that this idea attracts an atmosphere, something cold and melancholy, it is not so, the opposite occurs. The lyrics are a little festive, wishing an autumn that never ends, as many Russians will want hehe. This album without a doubt I label it as a sample of atmospheric doom metal, for its sounds and characteristics. In addition to a few touches of black metal, which make "The Morningside" is very similar to "Agalloch" and a little less to "Fen."

Band: The Morningside
Album: The Wind, The Trees And The Shadows Of The Past
Year: 2007
Genre: Doom Metal, Post-Rock
Country Russian

This wonderful album starts with a small introductory, loaded with a good atmosphere, called "Intro", which opens us to "The Wind", that beautiful song, very metal from the beginning, with some repetitive riffs, but that progressively recreate an impressive and hypnotizing atmosphere. It has long purely instrumental passages, which are really engaging and comfortable, and unleash the fury in the choirs, with voices that fit perfectly into the music. The lyrics are more directed to praise the fall, in what is the best time of the year.

The Wind

The next song "The Trees", begins with a curious intro, very peculiar, the drops of rain are really relaxing. So that few after the first minute, the song starts, with a beautiful guitar solo, really long and with a very post-rock style, according to my opinion. The song is progressively increasing and relaxing in the moments when the voices appear in action, to clearly delineate the desire that December never comes, due to the fact of winter. Very beautiful song without a doubt, with very melodic guitars.

The Trees

It's a shame that the album is so short, to close, with this part. "The Shadows Of The Past", the longest track on the album, with almost 13 minutes. Really captivating, since the morningside, shows us something a little different and that is suspect to many. With a very relaxed and calm start, it reminds me of the brilliant sounds of post rock, like those of Explosions in The Sky. The song is really relaxing, it does not have black metal voices, if you do not skip clean voices. The guitar and bass are very melodic in almost the whole subject, with some more powerful riffs in the last 5 minutes. Finally this album closes with "Outro", an instrumental song that closes the album, where they really sound like a post-rock band, a very remarkable drummer, likewise the bass to close this wonderful album with a beautiful calm.

The Shadows Of The Past

This album is certainly incredible, the only criticism I can make is that there were no songs. I wanted to know what else they were capable of doing. As for the album, perfect. They transmit a good idea, with good music, melody and atmosphere. In spite of being so short and maybe something repetitive, they can notice that the band moves in different genres, like the doom metal and post-rock in some themes. If they like bands like Agalloch, they have to listen to The Morningside, they are very similar, only without the folk touch that so characterizes Agalloch.

If you want to listen to the whole album, you can do it in the next link, from youtube! Thanks for your time, Regards!
