Music Production Tutorial - How To Get Reverb/Delay Time Right!

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Reverb and delay time

So I am sure a lot of musicians struggle to fix reverb/delay time to be smooth and synced to BPM of a track. I know 2 ways of doing it:

  • Sync reverb/delay time with ears (harder way)
  • Use Delay Time Calculator (easier way)
I would strongly recommend syncing reverb/delay time by ears because you will also learn how to sync other stuff and get better at attack-decay-sustain-release managing.

Delay Time Calculator

An easier way to fix reverb/delay time is to use Delay time Calculator:

To get right delay/reverb time you just need to put BPM of your track and time signature of your track and Delay time calculator will do rest for you, in other words, he will calculate all possible reverb/delay times for you.

For instance, let's say we need to get reverb time of sound that is 120 BPM and it has the signature time of 4/4.

Capture.PNG

So from the picture we see that if your track tempo is 120 BPM and it has time signature 4/4 your reverb time should be 2000 ms.

2000ms= 2 seconds

Here is how it should sound synced:

Longer reverb

So if you wan't to get longer reverb you multiply the time you get with Delay Calculator for how much longer reverb you wan't.
If you wan't reverb time twice as bigger, you will put reverb time of 4secounds, four times bigger 8 seconds and so on...

That's it. You will now be able to get reverb/delay time right faster and speed up your workflow. I hope this tip will help you ;)

I was told 240,000/BPM * Note = Ms but this calculator makes it much easier! Thanks!

awesome tutorial buddy. thanks! upvoted and followed :-)

Thank you and good luck ;)

I miss England. I miss the weather. I've spent moss of the last 25 years on tour. I'm ready to come home.
