Music

For 7 years I have been playing the clarinet.

I’d like to discuss how playing a musical instrument has developed not only my skills as a musician, but also my brain function. When playing a musical instrument your thoughts cannot be present, as it would distract you and your ability to play will be affected.

Playing a musical instrument stimulates the whole brain, as proven by FMRI and PET scans, where people playing music had their brain observed for activity. Whilst playing a musical instrument, you use your fine-tuning skills. This requires the Corpus Callosum to function, especially when playing a two-handed instrument. The Corpus Callosum is what joins the left hemisphere of the brain to the right hemisphere. This further causes development within our brain function.   Some of the most common and interesting abilities that can be gained from the skill are:

-Increased memory capacity

-Increase executive functions

-Boost team skills (when playing with a band)

-Enhances coordination

Playing a musical instrument can be a way to learn something new, something that can be fun can lead to incredible experiences. From my experience I have always found that no matter the circumstances, playing has always made me happier.

an instrument will also hold off arthritis, plus, there's nothing like holding a acoustic guitar close and feeling it gently vibrate into your chest as you play...almost as good as holding your wife or girl friend....although not at the same time!
