RE: Mushroom Monday – Cascade Hike Part 3
Nice mushrooms! They are always so nice to find on a hike. I wonder what that mystery mushroom looks like under its ear-like cap -- gills or little teeth, or what?
Happy New Year! And I hope you see a lot of mushrooms in 2017! : )
There were many that day, it was fun seeing them all. As I recall the mystery mushroom was smooth under a very thin looking ear-like cap - no gills, teeth or pores. Kind of like a shorter smoother morel or something but I didn't dig it up or examine it closely - I mostly just wanted the photo.
That's so interesting. Folks think of mushrooms as all having gills, but there's more variety to that. I would have liked seeing your odd little ear-like mushroom. I am used to seeing Wood Ear mushrooms, but they don't look at all like yours. Well, that's the magic and mystery of mushroom, alright! : )
There is a big variety of mushrooms around here, I'm planning on doing much more hiking this season. Everything is really frozen right now though.
Stay warm and cozy!
