The Mundane as Art Round 13 ..........Wood Piles!
You would think capturing Mundane Art was easy wouldn't you? When I saw what this weeks challenge was by @kus-knee I thought, "A piece of cake!" But I soon found out I was way off the mark! My difficulty was in finding a decent stack of wood located in Brisbane, Australia. This was my challenge in a nut shell! Location!
But was I going to give up before I even started looking? Definitely not! We have hardly eased into the coolness of our mild winter and with temperatures remaining comfortable (apart from a month or two of cold weather, mid winter) for the duration of our winters, it is understandable that not many people have open fires in this part of the world........unless they are camping in our Great Outdoors and putting the Billy on for a cuppa.
Short of climbing over fences, peering through gaps in walls, knocking on the doors of every household sporting a chimney or......... if I continued to let determination dictate my actions.........resort to trespassing in order to find the ever elusive wood pile, what was I to do?
I know! Take a 6 hour road trip from Brisbane to Coffs Harbour in New South Wales, go to their local show the day after arriving and capture the wood chopping competition and photograph the most artistic looking wood pile of the day. Voila!
So, after 'much ado' about Wood Piles here is my entry!
I nearly backed out of entering this challenge when I read the question posed by the creator of Mundane Art.
@kus-knee asks,
"Can the way people stack their wood piles teach us about the precision, orderliness, habits and even artistry of a nation, a culture or even individuals? Is a stack of wood also a piece of art?"
I also read his very interesting article (below) and I was ready to take my Wood Pile and make a small........very small bonfire in the back yard.

At the end of his article he asks 3 questions.
Are they part of culture?
Do they help to define their creators?
At what point do they become an art form?
I couldn't ignore this part of the challenge. But I was sorely tempted. "What does my Wood Pile say about me?" The only conclusion I am left with is, Desperate! I admit it. But hopefully, if you look really hard you will find a smidgeon of artistic appeal in my haphazard, hard earned (by the wood chopper) pile of wood chips.
A titbit of Trivia: My great grandfather was a New Zealand champion Wood Chopper back in his day.
