Alaska raw beach agates & jasper
Cook Inlet has some the best beaches for
rock hunting, sometimes we find petrified
wood, jade, colored glass, fossils and even
a small piece of amber once.
When the tide is low with plunty of exposed
beach is one the best times to hunt. It also
helps when the sun is at a lower angle than
noon, the agates jump right in your pockets!
Most the time we are never skunked, that
is come home without a single agate.
On cloudy days we do find more of the
red jaspers. High or low tide there is much
to be found, rocks, driftwood, shells and
photo opportunities always.

That picture came out great. It is so clear, on the big view you can see so many details in the rocks. The oblong light green, is that a piece of glass?

Yes that is a piece of glass, rare to find a
tube shaped one, usually are flat and squarish :-)
Your photo looks like a beautiful treasure box! May I go hunting with you? I won't even care is I get "skunked." I would be out there hunting every single day. What a blast! Hope you find many treasures @shasta! : )
There are a couple small dragons gaurding the
treasures, but they give up pretty easy for a biscuit! lol
You sure may go hunting with me, the more eyes the
better! Right now tho the beaches are covered with
slippery ice and snow, frozen stones, even the small
ones are hard to breakout.
We have to wait till breakup, when the white stuff
goes away! But since it's winter now, they are fun to
look at in treasure boxes @whatisnew :-)
I will be there after the thaw. : )
