MUELLER PROBE RUMOURS
Speculation is rife that President Trump could be interviewed by the head of the Russia probe Robert Mueller within weeks.
The Washington Post reported Monday that Mueller raised the issue of interviewing Trump during a meeting in late December with the President's lawyers, who did not respond to requests for comment. The President stands by his comments that there was no collusion with Russia during the election campaign in 2016 and that the investigation is a hoax perpetuated by disgruntled Democrats who failed to secure an electoral victory through Hilary Clinton.
An interview between Mueller and Trump could be the most significant step in the probe to date, and may have further implications for markets if the President is found to have acted unlawfully during his rise to power. Trump said in June 2017 that he was "100 percent" willing to give Mueller his version of events. "I'd be glad to," the president said when asked at a news conference, but now that former members of his campaign including Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn have already been implicated in the collusion investigation, the former being charged with 12 counts including conspiracy against the US and the latter having admitted to lying to the FBI, has Trump's attitude shifted?
