Keep an open mind(be like a child)steemCreated with Sketch.

Hey everybody! Welcome to another Clive's English Corner post

As we grow older our minds become less flexible because of all the knowledge we acquire as times goes by. Our belief system comes into place and we form our own opinions. This, in most cases, is a good thing, but it might not be so much so when it comes to learning a new language.

One of the biggest obstacles language learners face is native language interference. This happens because, as adults, we cling on to the knowledge we already have, so it's hard to accept conflictive information or to change our minds. Therefore, you must keep an open mind to learn a language effectively!

Check out the video for a full explanation, and you'll get what I mean!

So there you have it guys! Keep an open mind! Be like a child!

See you next time!

Awesome video. In learning Spanish, I fell asleep to a Netflix telenova series. Picked up quite a bit, and stopped since I can't find a good series that's in Mexican Spanish. I didn't want to mix my learning with Portuguese or Castilian. Probably good I took a break because I think I was getting a little bit dramatic in real life with my husband. 🤣 By the way, great smile!

I didnt' know that Spanish was called Castilian there. Castilian is actually standard Spanish, it's not another language just a different accent like American vs. British. Te ayudo cuando quieras ;-)

Lol. It's called Spanish here. I'm from Texas so I am trying to learn Spanish w Mexican dialect instead of dialect from Spain, that's what I meant when I said Castilian.

I wouldn't worry about the difference between Spanish from Spain and Latin America in general. Once you have a good grasp of the language, you only need a bit of time to get used to the different accents.

Good point! 😃

Wow! Thank you! If you have any questions about Spanish, don't hesitate to ask!

I worked a little while in an academy as English Teacher myself and it was focused on teaching children from very early age. When we learn to speak we listen to a rich full language and slowly we incorporate it, we are no exposed to a simplified divided by levels or topics languages, we just learn to speak, and I think many forget how to teach (or teach themselves) in an intuitive and natural way.

What a great advice. It's so true, most of the time we don't notice how our own mind gets in the way of learning new things, because we think it's too difficult and we are always questioning everything. Unlike kids, who are basically like sponges absorbing knowledge!
