good fact finding and exploration! the payout, from what i understand, is tied directly to how much one participates, ie talks in chat, writes posts, votes and comments on pal posts etc.
i dont mind that the mods earn a bit more because they put in a heap of time and energy, and more work that we cannot see behind the scenes in meetings, implementing ideas to improve the server, disciplining people who take it in their heads to step out of line. i don't always agree with their decisions, but at the end of the day, I recognize their dedication.
no system is perfect; this one is new, and constantly evolving. i believe it is as fair as it can be, especially when compared to steem where the whales always got a hefty portion of the reward pool. yes, I will still gripe that its a popularity game as far as post rewards. it is what it is.
despite all that I stay in PAL for the value of listening to clay on a saturday night talk about economic disparity and withdrawing consent, carrie allen being weird and esoteric on sundays, the weird tech thats out there with makin stuff, and so much more. these are the hidden jewels at pal, and they are friggin FREE. and anyone who participates is making a bit extra just being there! this is AWESOME.
Hey Mikey, at the beginning mods were nerfed 80% and I still got a rediculously large payout as I was too active 😂 so we nerfed again and seem to get be reaching a more equitable balance. We will continue to monitor the payout to make sure things are as fair as can be.
This is a really cool thing to know! I think tweaking the nerfing is an excellent idea. You shouldn't be overly penalized either. A good balance can be found that is fair for all!

We know that no matter what, we're going to end up spending time chatting in there. It's not just our hobby, it's also our job. We were transparently granted some pretty big stakes in the white paper, and even though we've agreed not to sell for a full year and keep staked up to curate, having us scoop the majority of POI is far from what we'd like to see happen. So yes, we've taken a hard voluntary nerf in the chatting system. We still make a little bit, and after some time, we will re-evaluate if the heavy percentage makes sense. For right now, since we spend 12-16 hours a day explaining it all... lol, we would be getting a large chunk of it all (like, hilariously large) and it's just not in line with what we're trying to do. You're always welcome to ask us directly during a show or in the pond as well. The blockchain is transparent, but we do our best to be, also~
Thanks for the view from your Perspective Crim. I hope you didn't take my post as complaining. On the contrary, I think it is admirable that you guys are working on finding the most fair way to run things.
On a platform where it seems like Steem Inc is just going to throw their code out there and say "This is what it is", it is refreshing to have a group be ready to make changes as they become relevant. Finding a decent balance is commendable, and I certainly appreciate the efforts!
