Why the Fuck Should I Watch: BIRDS OF PASSAGE (2018)?

Why the fuck should you watch “Birds of Passage”?
• You have wondered what happens when capitalistic greed, drug trade, and highly traditional indigenous culture meet.
• You are a fan of “Goodfellas”, “Scarface” and “The Godfather” type of gangster movies and want to see something similar with an exotic twist.
• Cannabis trade, guns and bloodshed in a crime drama that has something to say makes you nod with annoying looking excitement.
• You think that there has to be something more about Colombia than Pablo Escobar and cocaine.

“Birds of Passage” is a Colombian crime drama about a dude who wants to get married, but the mother of the hot chick wants 30 goats, some other animals and jewelry in return. What would you do in such situation? The main character Raphayet lives in 1960s-1970s Colombia so he decides to trade some cannabis to the gringos who have arrived from the great USA to spread some peace and capitalism. One successful deal leads to another and Raphayet is a married man on a way to being a rich gangsta.

But wealth comes with a lot of responsibility, no sorry, I mean greed, revenge, materialism and violence, which all start to erode the ways of living and thinking that the traditional families and clans have been used to. You know, like trying crack once and ending up sucking dick for more crack a week later. Or playing poker for money on Monday and ending up sucking dick on Sunday for money to play more poker (no don’t get confused, there will be no dick sucking in this movie).

Although this all sounds fun and happy drug games, “Birds of Passage” is a serious movie about the results of greedy pursuit of material wealth colliding with ritualistic and tradition-loving culture in which loyalty, honor and respect needs to be in balance within a family and between tribes. And when we add illegal drug trade to the mix, everything gets painted in blood.

Why the fuck you shouldn’t watch “Birds of Passage”?

• What do you mean by colonialism and USA spreading bad habits to other countries? F U, USA is the greatest motha flippin country in the WORLD.
