How to Improve Your Movie Watching Experience

I believe we have all had experiences when we watch a movie but don’t feel that it worked the way as it should have done. Many times it’s the movie’s fault - it’s either boring, not the genre you like, or just crap. But even a good movie can be ruined when they are watched not the way they were supposed to be watched. I see you are confused - how to improve that, you ask? Well, stay calm, i’m going to provide you a list of things you can do consciously to improve your experience while watching any kind of movies.

1. Never watch the trailers.
Many movies show all the key plot points or action scenes in the trailers, and for a little smarter guy (like me) it ruins everything. You know exactly what to expect and nothing really is a surprise. To keep the possibility to surprise your pants off (Do it only at home, lesson learned the hard way) avoid trailers, because for most of the times you already have heard from a friend or from media if the movie is watchable and recommended or not. Also in the age of sequels...well...you are going to see the „Avengers: Endgame“ anyways, so why to spoil it?

2. Watch it on the big screen.
You cant watch a huge blockbuster movie on a tiny laptop, if you are not a butterfly or some other small animal, and expect it to be good. There were 100 million dollars burned in the CGI or practical effects fire and that all goes to waste if you can’t even see it. You have probably seen how many CGI people are listed in the credits - now imagined them punching you in your stomach after hearing that you watched hours and hours of their work from your smartphone.

3. Use massive speakers.
The movies have a sound for a reason. Just turn the volume up, but the bass to the max and let it massage you, your ears, your heart, your neighbours and so on.

4. Go to the cinema.
Previous 2 suggestions together means basically: get your ass up and go to the cinema. There you can also feel the vibe of the crowd and then funny turns into more funny, and shit turns into more shit.

5. Get drunk.
We all have watched massively illogical movies that bother us, but when you use responsible and strategic alcohol abuse, then your brain lowers itself to the level of the movie and you really enjoy it more. You have to be a grown-up to do that, so if you are 17 y and 11 months old then...sucks to be you (says a bitter old man).

6. Get a boyfriend/girlfriend.
If you watch movies at home, it’s always nice to have a back up plan to start smooching when the movie turns out to be boring. In the end you won’t remember much about the movie, but you got to the 2nd base and you still think that it was worth it.

7. Go to the deserted countryside summer cottage alone.
You know the feeling, when there are nobody in 10 km radius of your summer cottage, but you still feel that there are eyes watching you from the woods? Well, go there and put on a creepy horror movie in the night. Don’t put your curtains on the window and leave the door open. Believe me, the movie turns into a much more scary masterpiece.

8. Destroy your smartphone.
The best way to improve your experience is to actually concentrate on the movie. Hammer your smartphone into pieces, cut our Internet cables and watch the movie in peace.

9. Don’t read reviews.
If you know that you want to see the upcoming movie anyways, do it at the first day it’s in the cinema. Then it’s much easier to avoid reading reviews that usually spoil the plot or try to make you think like the reviewer thinks. Read only our WTF reviews, those are great!

10. Watch good movies.
A good movie is always a good movie. Even if you try to ruin it by doing all the opposite things listed above, those rare great ones just suck you in, if you let your guard down even once and concentrate on watching for a moment. But just in case – destroy your smartphone anyways.
