RE: The Thinning: A Review Of The Thinning Movie Trailer. Are Cinematic Themes Changing For The Better?

in #movies7 years ago

Good post mate - but the stories of overpopulation have been around for a long time - Soylent Green is one from about 50 years or so ago which springs to mind - looks like an exciting movie actually. SK.

Thanks mate. I had to look up Soylent Green. Didn't get a full synopsis of what the "mysterious ingredient" was that Thorn uncoveres in the Soylent food product. Was it related to deliberate population reduction?

Overpopulation is one thing but it was the mass-scale, state-dictated reduction policies represented by The Thinning that struck me. If Soylent was designed for the same purpose then you've got a great point in that this is obviously a theme that's not all that new. Aside from the odd example such as The Hunger Games (representing a little-league, small scale, almost token effort at cattle culling) I'd not seen any decent attempt at conditioning us to the concept.

Nice contribution mate, thanks. BTW, I can visualise Charlton Heston in that film. From the plot summary I read, he seemed a perfect casting choice 😎
