Yatala Drive-In - Yes they do still exist!
The Drive-In
On occasion, we love to go to the movies but, as any parent can attest to, taking kids to the movies can be a real pain in the arse! So our solution is we often go to the drive-in movies at Yatala just south of Brisbane, Australia.

The complex has 3 fields and show 2 movies per night. Sometimes, during school holidays, they will often show 4 movies and have a movie marathon that goes all night.
All you need at the drive-in is a dark sky and warm night, although, you can rug up inside your car if you like.
We like to back the car towards the screen and open up the back, put in a few bean bags or a mattress and lie down to watch a few flicks. Normally, however, the kids get in and sleep in the back and we setup a few chairs in front of the car, open the esky and much away on some snacks and few cold beers.
We went along last night and watched 'Red Sparrow' and '12 Strong'. Both were very watchable films!
No longer do you need to hook an old speaker over your side window as the sound for the movies is now accessed through a dedicated FM radio station through your car stereo. This drive-in has a very cool old school styled retro diner and some playground equipment beneath the big screen for the kids too.
If you are ever in this neck of the woods and haven't experienced the beauty of the drive-in, then treat yourself and go along.

Cool it is still going the last time i went there was about 20 years ago. Was there with the Leyland P76 car club. A friend and myself layed back on the bonnet with heads on the windscreen to watch the movie. I was a great time. Thanks for letting us know it is still going.
I love the yatala drive-in! My favourite movie we saw there was Moana. But it is a much more enjoyable experience with younger kids than the cinema. Couple of camping chairs, mattress for the kids in the back of the SUV, bag of chips & jaffas and we're good to go. 👍
Love a good drive-in.
Long live 'em!
Classic.
Good power and energy to you.
Wow, we moved overseas nearly 6 years ago. But I thought the Yatala drive in had closed down. Loved a Yatala pie and a movie double at the drive ins. I went there as a kid, and we used to take our kids out there also.... Glad to hear it's still kickin on!
Smile....beautiful experience and a memory children wouldn't forget about. I so much love movies when i was a kid, though not like now. Nice
