Here's JOHNNY DEPP

in #movies7 years ago

I know that some people who’d actually read this would know a little about who Johnny Depp is. You’d probably know him more if I say Jack Sparrow.

I mean CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW. Sorry Captain.

Well, to start things off, I can proudly say that I have, almost, seen every single movie Johnny Depp has made. Even his music video appearances, documentaries and a little taste of 21 Jump Street (more like 2 seasons).

I would like to take this opportunity to give you a list of some of my favorite Johnny Depp Movies. But I would like to focus mainly on his more outlandish and quirky movies. Mind you, there will be a lot of Tim Burton coming at you in a few sec.

There certainly is a lot to mention if we’re going down the path of Johnny’s career as a master chameleon of an actor. I couldn’t even begin to pick what to share with you first. So let’s start with this.

  1. Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise

I can certainly say that this might be one of the most highly known movie of Johnny Depp. Creating a franchise with a fifth one coming up, I could say that this franchise is absolutely amazing. The fact that it’s from Disney just makes it more magical. I love the way he incorporates his hilarious antics in a swashbuckling (I love that word) adventure in the high seas in search for mystic or cursed treasures. I have grown fond of Captain Jack Sparrow’s amazing adventures. He defies all odds and gets away with it in true Captain Jack Sparrow fashion. The image of pirates has never been this good.

  1. Alice in Wonderland

First Burton movie on this list is Alice in Wonderland. Featuring a far darker take on a beloved fairy tale adventure. I know that it’s a new spin on Alice but it surely caught my attention. It’s something new to digest and I won’t deny that I love Burtonesque type movies. The overall representation and re-imaginings of all the known Alice characters are truly wonderful. I’ve seen the old Disney movie like a hundred times, so this is something very new. The Mad Hatter is my favorite character (obviously). It’s Johnny Depp in full make-up. What more can you ask. He’s totally unrecognizable as the guy in POTC. Thumbs Up Burton!

  1. Edward Scissorhands

The name itself says it all. A guy named Edward with scissors for hands. Another Tim Burton masterpiece. If my memory serves me right, this is the first movie Tim Burton and Johnny Depp got together. It’s amazing how Johnny fits the bill as Edward. He is a totally lovable but dangerous character. Imagine a life like Edward with scissors for hands. Isn’t it just sad. This movie also showcases the real life couple (back then) Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. Edward Scissorhands is a good movie to watch with the family and you can certainly learn a a lot about humanity and love.

  1. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Another dark story with a revenge seeking twist. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp teams up in this movie again but with the addition of Helena Bonham Carter, another brilliant actress. Demon Barber sums it up. Sweeney Todd is a murder fest. With all the throat cutting, human meat grinding and pie eating, it will fill your stomach with the gore that is mild. Not to mention the singing (this is a Broadway musical). There is a lot of singing going on. What more can you ask?

  1. Corpse Bride

Well, you can’t really see Johnny Depp in the movie, but you can certainly hear him. He dubs Victor Van Dort (I love his name), the main character alongside Helena Bonham Carter providing the voice of the Corpse Bride. You can instantaneously tell that this is a Tim Burton movie (remind you of A Nightmare Before Christmas). It’s amazing how you can incorporate such vivid life lessons in such a dark and quirky setup. I love stop motion and if you love it too, then watch this movie. There’s singing too.

  1. Dark Shadows

Well this is a movie I certainly enjoyed. It’s not the typical vampire you see in movies nowadays (not the sparkling in the sun type of vampire). This vampire movie is not just an ordinary vampire movie. It’s a family movie. Yes. Family. When I say family, I mean family. Who would’ve guessed that a vampire would rather protect his family rather than suck them dry of there blood. Barnabas Collins (another name I love) is a very old vampire who has been awakened after a hundred years in a box underground. It’s like Addams’ Family. Everyone has something special to offer. I like the fact that there’s a witch involved, it somehow adds to the overall darkness of each character. It’s very funny too.

  1. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Now here’s a movie you can sink your teeth into. The word CHOCOLATE FACTORY just gives you excitement like a little kid inside you is just screaming for sweets. Circulating around a group of children undertaking a tour of Willy Wonka’s famous Chocolate Factory and discovering that they are being tested by Willy Wonka in the process. I love how the set looks and all the candy you can see everywhere. It’s a true wonderland for anyone who has a sweet tooth. Wonka is another of Johnny Depp’s characters who are quirky and odd at the same time. I don’t know how he does it, but he surely engages the audience to listen to every bit of nonsense he has to say. Delicious!

  1. Rango

Yet another character is being dubbed with Johnny Depp’s voice. Personally, I have gone through every line in this movie and I’ve memorized almost every word (with the help of watching it over and over again with my brothers and sisters). It’s a hilarious movie that focuses on the titular character, Rango. A lizard who doesn’t know who he really is. Over the course of his adventures as a Sheriff in a little place called Dirt, he discovers who he really is. It’s a laugh out loud cartoon comedy with everything you’d like to see in a Western inspired animal town. Did I mention that it’s really funny.

  1. Benny & Joon

Here’s a lesser known movie of Johnny Depp. It’s about a very odd guy who is fascinated with Buster Keaton and meets a mentally ill girl and they fall in love with each other. It’s a romantic movie for anyone who wants something odd in there love story. I love how Sam (Johnny Depp’s character) showcases his love for Buster Keaton in a variety of stunts that are amazing to watch. You should check out the diner scene he does in the movie. It’s totally brilliant. It’s not your ordinary love story, it’s something better.

  1. Sleepy Hollow

Last on our list is the first Johnny Depp movie I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I could remember myself being afraid of this movie, because of the headless horseman. But now I am very fascinated with it. Yet another Burton-Depp collaboration mentioned in this list. You will get your fill of blood and death in this movie. Johnny portrays a somewhat scared Ichabod Crane, and it helps make the movie a little more quirky and not murdery. It’s a good movie to test your detective skills and unmask the true killer. A wonderful adventure.

Now that I’ve given you a taste of every quirky and odd Johnny Depp movie, it’s your time to enjoy the brilliance of Johnny Depp. You won’t regret it. Promise.

I didn’t mention some of Johnny Depp’s most recent movies because honestly, I didn’t find it as fascinating as the previous ones.

But I am not loosing hope in him yet. I’m still anticipating on his next movies and I’m sure to love it just as I loved the other ones. I’m very excited about this summer’s Alice Through the Looking Glass and next year’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy his movies as best as I can hold it. I’m so excited.

For now, Fairfarren All!!!
