Movie Review - Psycho (1960), directed by - Alfred Hitchcock
“No one really runs away from anything. It's like a private trap that holds us in like a prison,” says Norman Bates who is the proprietor of the Bates Motel and lives with his old ill mother. He loves his mother but also sick of her dominating behavior.
Blending suspense with characters struggling in their relationships Alfred Hitchcock's, 'Psycho' is a story that revolves around Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) who is on a run to start a new life with the stolen money and her encounter with Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) and the aftermath. Though this movie is filled with less horror, the music by Bernard Herrmann and camera work was successful in sustaining tension throughout the film. I could say this movie is a classic example of Hitchcockian style exhibiting voyeurism, framing shots to maximize anxiety and fear, and of course Alfred Hitchcock in a cameo role.
Nonetheless, this movie was set in 1960 with a cheap budget but I could say that it is one of the best thriller movies I have seen, it will mislead you, surprise you, without even showing a gallon of blood it will fright you and the ending is the masterstroke by the director which will beautifully explain the whole plot.
It is a film that I like to call “don’t leave your couch movies.”
