Heading into the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, fans should expect to see the most Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes coming together for one film and also be prepared to witness the longest entry in the franchise thus far. According to AMC Theatres' website, the upcoming film clocks in at 2 hours and 36 minutes.

It would only make sense that the culmination of nearly 20 films would result in a film of epic scale, pushing Captain America: Civil War from the top spot, which runs 2 hours and 27 minutes. Previous reports of Infinity War's length placed it at 2 hours and 30 minutes, but it's possible those reports were merely approximations.

The length of the film might not come as a surprise, yet last week fans received the shocking news that the film was going to be released a week early, on April 27th, instead of the scheduled date, May 4th.

The long-term planning of Marvel Studios doesn't often make these unexpected changes, with films regularly opening on dates that had been announced up to three years earlier. One theory surrounding the date change is that Disney was nervous about Deadpool 2 hitting theaters two weeks after Avengers opened, giving the Marvel Studios film some stiff competition. Rather than two weeks, Avengers now has three weekends to dominate the box office before any serious threats emerge.

Another possible factor in the release date shift is Solo: A Star Wars Story, which will land in theaters on May 25th. By separating those films ever so slightly, that means Disney will have assumed hits in both April and May instead of two in the same month.

In addition to releasing the film earlier than expected, Avengers: Infinity War will also open in all markets on the same day across the world. A recent trend in Marvel Studios releases is to open the film in overseas markets a few days before it opens domestically. The reported reasoning behind this is to combat piracy, although the statistics behind this rationale are vague at best.

Over the past week, Marvel fans have been trying to contain their excitement, as the release date of Avengers: Infinity War was officially moved up a week. But the hype is sure to only grow, especially with Marvel's latest countdown.

The official Marvel Studios Twitter account recently shared a brief teaser, celebrating the fact that Infinity War is officially fifty days away. You can check it out below.

The teaser doesn't show any new footage, as it just highlights the scenes involving T'Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). But still, putting the days until Infinity War debuts down to a nice number like that is sure to get fans excited.

“This is one of the biggest things in film history and to be a part of it was just incredible." Chris Hemsworth, who will reprise his role as Thor, revealed during an interview earlier this year. "I think what these characters are about to face — with Thanos — there’s been nothing quite like it... I finished literally two days ago and I looked at (directors) Joe and Anthony (Russo) and said, ‘I don’t know how you guys have gotten this far and I don’t know how you’re going to hold it together and complete this thing, but my hat’s off to you.’"

A lot of that will be tied to the fact that just so many characters will be crossing paths with each other, something that Marvel fans have been looking forward to for years.

"I think what people are going to be excited about is what I was excited about and that’s Thor meeting the Guardians and Iron Man meeting Doctor Strange.” Hemsworth explained. “The interactions between all of these characters and the different sorts of chemistry and the relationships that are formed is something that people are going to be pretty blown away by.”

We’re now six weeks away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War, which was recently moved up at the behest of Iron Man. Marvel’s fresh out of teasers and trailers, having hyped the third Avengers film for what feels like infinity. Presumably, all the studio has left to fan the flames of the geeky masses at this point are promotional stills, which don’t sound all that exciting. That is, until you realize that it’s another smoldering, class picture of the many good-looking people that inhabit the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then it’s totally okay.

Total Film posted the photo, which MCU mainstay Chris Evans promptly shared. It shows the Captain America actor alongside Black Panther’s Chadwick Boseman and Danai Gurira, as well as his old buddies Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.

If you’ve seen Black Panther (and if not, why not?), then you’ll recognize the savannas of Wakanda, which have featured prominently in the new movie’s previews. Why is T’Challa’s kingdom one of the battlegrounds for the upcoming Infinity War? We won’t really know until April 27, when the movie hits theaters, but we have some theories.

Months after the crowd at Comic-Con got to enjoy an early glimpse of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel has released the trailer for the rest of us. And this time, we can watch it without that one guy’s “ooh”s and “ahh”s.

As we noted way back then, the clip features Captain America with a beard, Doctor Strange bringing some of his signature tricks to the rest of the Avengers, Spider-Man showing off the new threads he got at the end of Homecoming, Black Widow with blond hair, and Thanos finally throwing down and showing why the movies have been setting him up as the ultimate villain for so long. (Poor Vision.) The Avengers had trouble fighting an army of generic robots in Age Of Ultron, so they should have their work cut out for them with an alien warlord who can toss planets around and his spooky henchmen.

In the Infinity Gauntlet comic book storyline that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movie is said to be loosely based on, the villain Thanos becomes so all-powerful that the only help he needs to nearly eradicate the entire universe is from Mephisto, Marvel’s non-union equivalent of the Devil. After getting defeated by his own hubris that time, though, Thanos has bolstered his ranks in more recent comic events by assembling the Black Order, a team of glorified henchman who look cool but aren’t really as interesting as their boss. At the D23 expo, Disney revealed that the Black Order—now dubbed The Children Of Thanos—will be appearing alongside Josh Brolin’s Thanos in Infinity War, giving the huge group of heroes who will be stopping by a larger number of bad guys to punch and throw shields at. (They aren’t Thanos’ kids in the comics, but it sounds like that’s changing for the movie.)

You can see a photo of the gang below, along with Brolin hoisting the Infinity Gauntlet into the air:

It doesn’t sound like any of these colorful goons appeared in the Infinity War footage that a select group of lucky jerks got to see yesterday, and Marvel hasn’t announced who might be playing them in the movie, but The Hollywood Reporter notes that the studio didn’t confirm that Vin Diesel was playing Groot until a few months before Guardians Of The Galaxy came out. That means there’s plenty of time for talented voiceover artists to audition for these characters before Marvel just goes with big-name actors instead.

While you were busy keeping an eye out for the Mueller indictments or scrolling through all the #LousySmarchWeather tweets, Robert Downey Jr. was hitting up Marvel Studios for a favor. The actor, who helped launch the MCU with 2008's Iron Man, asked if he couldn’t see Avengers: Infinity War sooner than May 4. The studio’s Twitter account immediately answered in the affirmative, suggesting he take Chris Evans, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle, and Anthony Mackie as his dates.

But in true Tony Stark fashion, Downey Jr. wanted more, and asked to open up the invitation to “the entire world.” And wouldn’t you know it, Marvel Studios said “yes” in what was almost certainly an off-the-cuff moment, and not say, a last-minute switch to avoid going head to head with Star Wars Day. Who cares, though—at least you don’t have to worry about having your view of Infinity War obscured by other people’s Leia buns and Wookiee costumes.

As we draw ever closer to the arrival of Avengers: Infinity War, we've been unable to resist trawling through promo footage for hints, clues and Easter eggs.

For example, what the hell does Spider-Man's Iron Spider armour mean?

But before we dissect Infinity War's latest completely awesome image, we think it's probably fair just to enjoy it a little. Which is what we'll do, courtesy of Chris Evans.

The brand new photo (originally published by Total Film) shows key players from both Black Panther and the Avengers backed by a fierce Wakandan army. Okoye, Black Panther, Captain America, Black Widow and Bucky Barnes are all correct and present.

The gang might not all be there, but we're in no place to argue that that isn't one "dangerous" superhero super-group.

Speaking of Bucky, the photo also serves as our best look yet at his swish new bionic arm

MCU spoiler alert... ever since his old one was destroyed at the end of Captain America: Civil War, fans have been speculating about his new limb – he wasn't sporting it at the end of Black Panther.

But it looks like tech whizz Shuri has been hard at work on the metallic (possibly vibranium?) arm since, as the Winter Soldier now looks ready for battle in Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War may be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s longest film yet. According to AMC Theaters, the film clocks in at a whopping 2 hours and 36 minutes.

With the Infinity War out in just over a month, AMC’s runtime for the film is likely accurate, but it’s worth noting that this is not an official confirmation of that. CBR has reached out to Disney for comment.

This reported runtime falls in line with what co-director Joe Russo said of the film last summer. “The current cut is over two and a half [hours],” he said at the time. “Most of it’s a movie you could show, but there’s still a lot of work left to be done, I still have a couple of scenes that we haven’t finished from Avengers 3 that I’m shooting in the next few months with my brother [Anthony], and it’s certainly gonna be a film that lives in the two and a half hour, two and a half hour-plus range.”

Infinity War will beat out Captain America: Civil War by just eight minutes, as the Captain America film runs for 2 hours and 28 minutes. The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron follow at 2 hours and 23 minutes and 2 hours and 21 minutes respectively.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin. The film arrives April 27.

Since his introduction in 2012, at the very end of The Avengers, Thanos has appeared single-minded in his quest: to gather the six cosmic artifacts, and use their combined power to rule the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But is it possible that the Mad Titan’s motivations are a little more nuanced than that? A new character bio for Avengers: Infinity War suggests they are.

Appearing on the Toys R Us website hub for the upcoming Marvel Studios sequel, the brief character description refers to Thanos as “cunning,” “intelligent” and “fierce,” adjectives that have long been associated with the classic comic book villain. However, this new biographical sketch continues, touching upon the motives of the Mad Titan, “a ruthless cosmic threat consumed with saving the universe from itself.”

There’s a lot to unpack in those 11 words, particularly considering the first phrase would seem to contradict the second. Few would dispute that Thanos is ruthless cosmic threat, as evident from decades’ worth of Marvel Comics stories, to say nothing from his previous MCU cameos. But that he’s “consumed with saving the universe from itself” brings additional layers to his quest. That would suggest he’s not quite as power-hungry as previously thought; behind the unsettling grin, there may be a sense of altruism.

Of course, Thanos envisioning himself as the savior of the universe, rather than its conqueror, probably doesn’t change the end result. But it raises the question of what, or who, he believes he’s saving the universe from. The use of the word “consumed” may provide a tantalizing clue, as in the comic book source material the Mad Titan has been obsessed since adolescence with the physical embodiment of Death, whom he longed to impress. Could Death, as fans have long theorized, make an appearance in Infinity War? If that’s the case, is Thanos intent on saving the universe from her, or for her?

Some new promo art has hit the Internet, and it might spoil which character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has the Soul Stone after all.

Reddit user Suprxeme posted the art online, which depicts several heroes superimposed over the Infinity Stones. The picture is from the movie tie-in novel, IncrediBuilds: Marvel: Infinity Gauntlet Deluxe Book and Model Set.

thanos 5.jpg

Curiously, Iron Man is shown to be associated with the Soul Stone. It was initially believed to be in Wakanda, but Black Panther proved that not to be the case. Considering the promo art matches Vision with the Mind Stone and Doctor Strange with the Time Stone, it could mean Iron Man has the last stone instead.

If this were to be the case, it would prove to be something of a metaphor for everything the MCU has become. After all, Iron Man was the first film and has generally served as something of the soul of the universe. On the other hand, no one else in the picture actually has the Infinity Stone they are shown to be associated with.

According to AMC Theaters, Avengers: Infinity War is set to surpass Captain America: Civil War to become the longest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a runtime of 2 hours and 36 minutes, edging out Civil War by about 10 minutes.

Set to drop next month, the runtime for the film is most likely accurate, however Disney has yet to confirm. The reported runtime does fit into what co-director Joe Russo said of the film last summer. “The current cut is over two and a half [hours],” Russo stated.

The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron follow at 2 hours and 23 minutes and 2 hours and 21 minutes respectively.

Marvel also just released individual posters for 18 characters that will appear in the upcoming film. The illustrated images feature Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Bucky, Spider-Man as Iron Spider, Falcon, War Machine, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Mantis, and Groot. However, Black Panther — the hero of the 10th highest-grossing film in U.S. history — did not get a poster.

With the recent news that Avengers: Infinity War will be released one week earlier — as well as a look at the various lines of action figures — Marvel’s latest poster for the film focuses on the heinous Thanos and his children, the Black Order. Helping him track down the infinity stones, they will most likely go head-to-head with the various MCU heroes, who are left scattered around the globe after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel has finally dropped the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War after two trailers premiered exclusively for San Diego Comic-Con and D23, respectively. Fans have been clamoring for the debut of a trailer ever since the film date was announced, and even more so after a few special fans got to see some live footage earlier this year. The trailer highlights a battle in Wakanda, Tony Stark meeting Doctor Strange, Spider-Man in a new suit, and a bearded Captain America. But among those images are a few glimpses of what fans can expect to see play out in the upcoming film.

Spider-Man’s Spider-Senses

Spider-Man will be involved in Avengers: Infinity War, sporting a new suit, presumably the one seen at the end of Homecoming, but what was missing in that film was his Spider-Sense ability. We see them on full display here, as the hairs on Peter’s arm rises before anyone notices the giant alien ring suspended in the air over New York. According to the director of Homecoming, Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense is meant to be an ability that develops as time goes on, akin to puberty. We also see Spider-Man getting slammed down to the ground hard by Thanos towards the tail-end of the trailer. Hopefully, his new suit and developing abilities play a part on Spider-Man’s survival in this high-scale battle.

Missing Footage From San Diego Comic Con & D23

There’s also a lot of footage from the original San Diego Comic-Con and D23 preview that didn’t make its way to the official trailer. Most noticeably, the focus on Thor and The Guardians of the Galaxy saved for the tail end of the trailer was prominently featured at the beginning of the SDCC preview and even showed extended footage of the scene. In the scene, Thor didn’t have his eyepatch from Ragnorok yet (despite the film taking place after those events), and more dialogue between the Guardians, leading to them confronting Thor floating in the vastness of space. The change in focus at the time is most likely because Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Thor: Ragnarok were the next films to be released. Following that logic, this trailer focuses on Wakanda and Black Panther, as his film is the next MCU movie slated to release.

Another shot missing is Star-Lord and Doctor Strange teaming up on an attack towards Thanos, where Strange uses his magic platforms to allow Star-Lord to jump higher and aim a blast at the enemy. And lastly, the last shot seen in the San Diego preview, highlighting Thanos crushing what appears to be a moon and throwing the fragments at the Avengers was cut completely from the official trailer. Maybe we’ll see these shots in the next trailer to drop.

Proxima Midnight Makes Her Debut

We also get to see an unknown individual throw a high tech spear at someone in the shadows and that person catching it. It appears the person catching it is Captain America, and the person throwing it is Proxima Midnight, one of Thanos’s Black Order associates. The Black Order is a team of aliens who work for Thanos, and no doubt he is using the group to attack earth and acquire the last Infinity Stone yet to be revealed. She’s also been seen in a few Twitter leaks containing never-before-seen footage of the film, which Marvel has been quick to pull.

The Last Infinity Stone May Have Been Revealed

Speaking of the last Infinity Stone, the Soul Stone, the trailer’s focus on Wakanda and the ensuing battle between Thanos’s minions and our heroes, gives credibility that the stone will appear in Black Panther next year. The only reason Thanos would send an army of his minions to this country is if it contains something he wants, and given that the stone only has one more movie to be introduced in before Infinity War, Black Panther is the best time to introduce it. It would also connect to Black Panther’s ability to communicate with the “Panther Gods” he sees in the trailer for his film. It’s theorized the Wakandans drew their spiritual strength from the same meteor that crashed into the country long ago, bringing metal Vibranium with it, and possibly the Soul Stone.

Loki Stole the Tesseract

And finally, we get a shot of Loki handing over the Tesseract, an Infinity Stone introduced during the first Phase of the cinematic universe. Shown in Thor: Ragnarok, fans speculated Loki took the item for himself once he saw it in Odin’s hall of treasures. However, fans are quick to point out that it appears Loki is unwillingly giving up the Tesseract, as he’s shown to have tears in his eyes as he presents it in front of someone, presumably Thanos himself.

Be sure to stay tuned for another Infinity War trailer drop, as the film is expected to release April 27, 2018.
