The Twelve Days of Christmas Movies Challenge 2017

It’s time to grab a cup of egg nog, throw another log on the fire, and settle down to Loosetooth’s Sixth annual 12 Days of Christmas Movies Challenge. The rules are pretty simple: Watch a Christmas movie every day in the run up to the big one.

…and because it’s Christmas Loosetooth’s knocked up a little example for you with a plethora of yuletide movie suggestions.

Day One/13th December: Yogi’s First Christmas (1980)
Yogi and Boo-boo wake up early from their usual winter hibernation and join their friends at the Jellystone Lodge. Unfortunately, if this Christmas isn’t a roaring success the lodge’s owner Mrs. Throckmorton is going to sell-up, so it’s up to Yogi and the gang to make this the best Christmas ever.

Day Two/14th December: Home Alone (1990)
When the McAllister family go away for Christmas they mistakenly leave behind 8-year-old Kevin, who’s not only forced to fend for himself for the first time ever, he’s also left to tackle a pair of crooks who’ve been targeting houses in his street.

Day Three/15th December: Holiday Inn (1942)
Bing Crosby gives up his position in a three-piece song & dance act for a quiet life on a farm, but when a year later it’s not the success he hoped for he decides to turn it in to a special entertainment venue only open on public holidays.

Day Four/16th December: Joulutarina (2007)
The residents of a small town take it in turns to look after orphaned Nicholas, each year he goes to live with a different family and as a thank you he makes gifts and leaves them on their doorsteps every Christmas Eve. With each year comes another group of presents to be made, soon the whole town is getting gifts, and then the next town, and the next, and the next, and before you know it the legend of Father Christmas is born.

Day Five/17th December: Love Actually (2003)
An impressive ensemble cast of Britain’s finest acting exports playing interconnected characters, including a faded rockstar and the Prime Minister, all experiencing different aspects of love in the run-up to Christmas.

Day Six/18th December: Fred Claus (2007)
Fred Claus grew up to be quite bitter in the shadow of his younger brother Nick, but when he goes to help him out during a difficult time he soon learns the joy of Christmas, and a new appreciation for his famous sibling.

Day Seven/19th December: Scrooge (1970)
Musical version of Charles Dickens yuletide classic A Christmas Carol starring Albert Finney as Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge was nominated for four Academy Awards, and Finney won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the famous penny-pincher.

Day Eight/20th December: Jack Frost (1998)
Michael Keaton plays travelling musician Jack Frost who’s killed returning to his family at Christmas, a year later Jack returns, only this time as a snowman.

Day Nine/21st December: Winnie the Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year (2002)
After remembering he’d forgotten to ask Santa for a gift this year Pooh retrieves the letter to make his addition, but when the letter doesn’t get redelivered Pooh pretends to be Santa so his friends won’t be disappointed on Christmas morning.

Day Ten/22nd December: It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
James Stewart plays George Bailey, a man who had always dreamed of traveling the world, but continually sacrifices those dreams to help the people of his home town. After he loses a considerable amount of money he decides the world would be better off without him, that is until an angel named Clarence shows him what a world where he was never born would look like.

Day Eleven/23rd December: Gremlins (1984)
While trying to find his son a Christmas present Randall Peltzer visits a backstreet curiosity shop where he purchases a cute little critter called a Mogwai. The Mogwai has a unique set of care guidelines, which if not adhered to will result in the creation of murderous reptilian creatures named Gremlins.

Day Twelve/24th December: Santa Claus: The Movie (1985)
After getting lost in a blizzard a childless couple discover a world of elves. The elves soon reveal that the husband is destined to become Santa Claus, a man who will become father to the children of the world, delivering them gifts every Christmas Eve.

As the world’s population grows so does the work load, Santa decides he needs an assistant. When an enthusiastic and inventive young elf named Patch doesn’t get the job he decides to leave the North Pole, soon Patch crosses the path of ruthless toy manufacturer B.Z. who manipulates Patch for his own financial gain, which may also ruin Christmas forever.
