My "Logan" thoughts... after the hype has settled down.

Here's my reaction on 'Logan' now that everyone has had time to endure the hype

Is "Logan" the best superhero movie of all time as it was hyped? Well... no.

Does it lives up to the hype created around the movie? Yes and no. Let me explain:

As a self-contained movie, it's actually good (good? It’s groundbreaking, genre-expanding flick!), and it's a healthy drift from the more relaxed tone that X-Men movies often have. A dirty, dark, gritty, rude, very adult story, "Logan" has the same premise as the comic "Old Man Logan" in which a sick, aging Wolverine faces his own decline, and the two properties shares violence and darkness but unlike the printed pages, the movie has a feeling of western without becoming a rehash.

Hugh Jackman bids farewell to the role that made him a household name in a heartfelt and excellently-carried-out way, and goes away with a fanfare in this achievement of the Marvel Mutant saga that finds their R-Rated movies a vein while the main X-Men storyline shows signs of exhaustion and of starting to drift away.

The big problem of "Logan" is the same that has suffered the entire saga since 2009, on the other hand. It lacks coherence or continuity with the rest of of the franchise, while Fox Studios has apparently given up to have something similar to a coherent story even if pretending that it does exist something like a Shared Universe a-la-MCU.

The result is terrible, since various references to other films should have been erased by altering the past in "X-Men: Days of Future Past", by Wolverine himself no less, rendering the first two Wolverine films not-canon. The resulting lack of continuity is, to say the least, a disaster, since there are facts and events referred in "Logan", that should never happened in the new continuity, resulting in conflicts with the new plot continuum (something that "Deadpool" already faced but didn't even bother to address). As part of a franchise, it gets lost.

So, like "Deadpool", it should be taken as a standalone movie and take the mentioned references as nostalgia and easter eggs to those who have followed the saga from the beginning.

On the other hand, if you can unplug your brain on that matter, you are watching an enjoyable gem, because, after all, the greatness that "Logan" has, it is an enormous achievement within its genre.

Although it doesn't reach the Top 3 of the greatest superhero films. It barely makes it to to the top 3 X-Men movies.

wondering if i should see this

If you mean my review, I don't give any spoilers. If you mean the movie, go watch it. It's a little gem even if you consider the problems I found.
