The Greatest Showman: Lessons Learnt

in #movies6 years ago

I finally got to see the Greatest Showman after hearing so much about it from a huge number of people. Because of the hype I had received, I saw the movie with keen interest and I learnt a number of lessons.

The movie didn't fall short of expectations and the music wowed me. Especially Jenny Lind's first performance of the movie *Never Enough. This particular song gave me goosebumps. The emotions behind the song was really catchy.

Well, here are a few things I learnt from the movie

We shouldn't be scared to show the world who we truly are.

P. T. Barnum was just a a boy with dreams singing to himself in the mirror. He lives like this all through his childhood into adulthood. Not until he lost his job as a clerk with a shipping company that he becomes inspired to chasing and building his dream. He expressed himself to the world in the way he knew how to and greatness followed him.
He built a circus and their fame travelled abroad and they were invited to perform at Buckingham Palace for the queen.

MORAL- showing the world and talents will open doors. Just like Barnum, we could choose to show the world what we have to offer. But remember, nobody pays you for been a spectator.

We should express our talents without shame

In Barnum's search for members of his circus, he looked out for freaks to serve as performers in his museum. Most of these freaks were ashamed of what they were for obvious reasons.
Most of them felt their outlooks didn't didn't fit into their society. Barnum was able to convince them to join his circus an together they achieved greatness.

MORAL- sometimes we may not look like the dreams we carry on the inside, the face may not match the voice neither does the size match the strength. But the must learn to express our talents to the world without shame.

Those who started With us are also important

During Barnum's performance at Buckingham Palace l, he met Jenny Lind a famed Swedish singer who was introduced to him by Phillip Carlyle who was also a partner in the Museum. Barnum offered to take her to America to perform. She had a wonderful performance and he (Barnum) decides to take her on a tour thereby neglecting his family and all other members of the circus. He also shut them out of attending a banquet party organises for top members of the society.
Members of the circus begin to feel neglected and thus led to the song This is me.

MORAL- no matter how much success we attain, certain members of our team should never be left behind. They are as important as we are in the whole success story. They make up our team

Never neglect your duty

While J.P Barnum was on your with Jenny Lind leaving Phillip Carlyle who was his partner and also a member of the circus in charge. A fight broke out between members of the circus and some neighbourhood thugs. This fight led to the museum been burnt down thereby leading Barnum to bankruptcy because he was running on a loan.
This wasn't the first time a misunderstanding had occurred between members of the circus and the thugs. The only difference this time was that Barnum was absent to handle the situation.

MORAL whenever we neglect our duties, we leave a vacuum that no one else might be able to fill. We should always ensure that we never neglect our duty because if we do, there might be a price to pay.

You can always get back up no matter how hard u fall

After the fire incident at the museum and Barnum's bankruptcy, he and members of the circus decided to rebuild and start again form the scratch. Together, they built another museum and started the show again.

MORAL- sometimes, life throws us down really hard. It's important that we get back up on our feet and start again if need be. Like they say, *its not how many times we fall that matters, it's how many times we get back up that truly counts.
