GameOverMan

Three friends who work at a hotel get the opportunity to pitch a start-up idea to a multi-billionaire social media star. But little did they know they weren't the only people trying to get money for their own needs. Here's my thoughts on the movie Game Over, Man which you can see yourself on Netflix

The movie introduces us to the three main protagonists, Alexxx, Daren and Joel (played by Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson respectively). They are hotel employees as maids who are also working together on developing a ground breaking video game that uses a contraption fitted onto your body as a controller. Daren comes up with the plans and Joel builds and programs everything that Daren comes up with using anything in the room around them. Alexxx is under the impression that he's the de-facto leader of the group.

While doing their jobs at the hotel, they hear from their manager that the social media star, Bae Awadi (played by Utkarsh Ambudkar), is hosting a party in the hotel penthouse, inviting all his celebrity friends. This presents a HUGE opportunity for our trio as getting the backing from someone so famous and rich would solve all their problems. Or at least that's what Alexxx thinks. Daren and Joel aren't to sure and would rather continue to develop the project and make it on their own.

At the party, where they're working as waiters, they're given the opportunity to pitch their idea to Bae who is instantly interested, getting his butler to write them a check for $200 thousand dollars right there on the spot. The hotel manager notices this all take place and shoos the waiters away, but not before he hands the check back to the butler.

They're not the only people coming to the party however. The hired security of the party has plans of their own as they were hired by a unknown player to rob Bae of $500 million.

After the heist begins and the building is locked down, and through number of close calls, our trio saves the day, while trying to get their check back from the butler.

Who's Who

The Goodies

The four main characters of this movie are Alexxx, Daren, Joel and Bae.

Alexxx, Daren and Joel

TheGoodies

While being the de facto leader of the group, Alexxx's down on his luck. He has such great ambitions and faith in the start up him and his friends are trying to start that it almost blinds him to the realities of the world. He sells really strong weed which he grows in his hotel room.

Daren is your typical stoner who is the one who comes up with crazy plans to deal with any situation the trio comes across in eureka moments. He deals with his issues by avoiding them all together and smoking week or vaping, even when its the dumbest idea to do so.

Joel is the brains of the group able to make any contraptions Daren comes up with. He's not sure of himself which directly contrasts Alexxx's self confidence and arrogance. He relies on his friends to help him out of his problems until he finally stands up for himself in the film.

Bae

Bae

Bae is an eccentric billionaire and a social media star. He's know for throwing massive parties that every celebrity wants to attend and get up to some crazy shenanigans. He's always accompanied with his butler who he belittles and abuses constantly in public to the amusement of Bae's guests and friends.

The Baddies

The antagonists of the film without giving to much of it away come in the form of the criminal militia that tries to rob Bae of his money. Their leader, Conrad, hires Erma and a slough of henchmen to get the job done.

Conrad and Erma

TheBaddies

Conrad (played by Neal McDonough) is self-confidant leader who wants to rob Bae because he believes that Bae is taking advantage of Americans with his vast wealth and social media exposure.

Erma (played by Rhona Mitra) is an attractive super assassin who's able to handle herself in a fight and prefers to use knives for her killings. She doesn't always follow orders but commands respect from the rest of the henchmen because of her special set of skills.

My Thoughts

This film was enjoyable to watch but won't be winning any academy awards anytime soon. Its twist is somewhat predictable, but I don't think it really matters in the end. There are several stand out things about the film I'd like to mention. I've tried to limit the spoilers above as much as possible but more detailed ones will probably follow. Go watch the film and come back if you don't want it spoiled for you.

Alexxx is a dick

Alexxx is a dick. Really. He's well acted and funny, but when you think about his character after, you wouldn't come to any other conclusion. He's a dick and it's a wonder his friends even work with him on their project in the end. I mean it was understandable that Daren and Joel were already working on it alone beforehand because they were sick of him, but I can't see how they would in the end. He seems to go through the film as though it were some video game. Now in context of the film's title it fits in, but it seems quite odd when looked at in context. He's constantly looking to kill one of the baddies because he's jealous that Daren and Joel had gotten kills that happened by mistake. When he finds out that his friends have been working on the project without him, he feels that he has to get them back and doesn't bring the key element that's needed for the plan they're trying to play out as revenge, putting them all in danger. Because he's a dick.

Daren is a dick

Yeah Daren is a dick too but for a completely different reason. Half of things he does are just dumb. From the running vape jokes to being high at inappropriate times. Its dumb and unbelievable. He's also the character that comes up with the plans. Which is fine I guess but it forces his chemistry with Joel's characters a bit too much. He was acted fairly well though.

Super Gay

As the film progresses, Joel is a bit timid and unsure of himself. However, when his friends tell him they know that he's gay, he instantly transition into a walking stereotype. Now I personally have no problem with homosexuality, but the transition was a bit jarring. It didn't help that he suddenly was able to almost take on Erma near the climax of the film as though being gay made him superman. Now I guess that that's the joke, but it really didn't add to the film.

The Twist

The film's twist played out pretty well. The actor that played Mr. Ahmad, Bae's butler, did a good job leading up to it. Its all subtly foreshadowed from the moment we first meet him early in the film and while he is still the bad guy, I think his motivations a pretty much justified in the context of the film despite killing Bae's dog (the ultimate tool of any director to show ultimate evilness). The only real issue I have with him is the way he's outed as the main antagonist. Conrad is the head of the militia doing the heist and when he's got all of Bae's guests as hostages, he takes everyone's cellphone. Except for Mr. Ahmad's. That's just dumb and obvious.

EVIL

Do you like dicks?

In watching this film you'll see a couple of penises. I have no problem with it and it was funny at first but towards the end of the film, its a bit overdone. From Alexxx pretending to have died from asphyxiation masturbation to having Rhona Mitra act seriously with dicks drawn all over her face. There's a lot of dick.

DicksonFace

Celebrities

There were several cameos in the film from notable celebrities in the real world that pop up throughout the film from Steve-O of Jackass to Donald Faison of Scrubs and I don't really know how I feel about it. Their appearance didn't really add to the film at all but it was still interesting to casually just see them around during Bae's party. I guess it did add to Bae's credibility as a famous person but I feel that it somewhat took you as the audience out of the film. The effect works well in all of Marvel's movies to always see Stan Lee because you're expecting him to turn up, but in this film there were just random cameos everywhere.

Conclusion

Ultimately, this film is an enjoyable watch if you don't take it to seriously. While the plot unravels in a random and unlikely way its fairly consistent in its method.

I also liked this movie, I mean it was not a cinematic masterpiece but sure a good movie to kill some time with.
Your article was a little on the long side, and since I've seen the movie I only read your thoughts and your conclusion.
Personally I give the movie a 3/5 rating. Cheers!

Ya I know its a bit of a long one. I'm wondering if I should just skip all the synopsis stuff if I write this sort of thing in the future. I'm currently trying to get markdown to link to later on into the article but I can't seem to get it to work.

Thanks for the comment though :)

Edit: I added the markdown link to My Thoughts Section but it doesn't seem to work.

Yeah I feel you should not give away everything in an article. Try to get people who hasn't seen it to see it and people whom have seen it to know what you're referencing :)

Forresten så fant jeg ut at vi begge er norske. Skal prøve og kommentere/upvote deg så mye som mulig, vi nordmenn får holde sammen.
Cheers!

Ya I'll keep that in mind in the future. Thanks for the advice.
