Fullmetal Alchemist Live Action: New Trailer and Visuals Feature Winry, Mustang, Lust, and More

The live action movie adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) revealed a new trailer and visuals and lets us take a closer look at the main characters! The movie will be released in Japanese cinemas on 1 December 2017,
This new info was revealed during a fan event on 12 July 2017. The first of the visuals is titled ‘Those who believe in the brothers’ bond’ and shows Honda Tsubasa as Winry, standing with the armor figure of Alphonse. The second is titled ‘Those who protect the brothers’ bond’ and features Roy Mustang, Maes Hughes, Riza Hawkeye and the cute dog Black Hayate. The last visual is titled ‘Those who break the brothers’ bond’ and shows the homunculi Envy, Lust, and Gluttony.

The 1-minute trailer reveals many scenes fans might be happy to see. We get to see Winry interacting with Ed, how Roy Mustang uses Alchemy, and we also get a look on the dark figures of Envy, Lust, and Gluttony. At the center of everything is still the tight bond connecting Ed and Al, which gets very clear when we hear Alphonse say, ‘You don’t have to go that far for me.’ to which Ed replies, ‘For you, Al, I would do anything.’
Each character shown in the trailer is represented by one kanji (Chinese character):
Ed: 鋼 hagane = steel
Al: 鎧 yoroi = armor
Winry: 技 waza = skill
Mustang: 焰 honoo = flame
Hughes: 友 yuu = friend
Hawkeye: 鷹 taka = Hawk)
Lust: 色 iro = lust
Envy: 妬 to = envy
Gluttony: 食 shoku = gluttony
As the original manga was set in a world modeled after Europe in the 19th century, many scenes for the movie were shot in Italy. They even managed to rent an expensive 100-year old locomotive for a shot and went to Sienna and Florence for a variety of shoots. The visual effects for this movie took about 1 year to produce. When it comes to visual effects, this movie has the largest number of cuts and also has the longest production time in the history of Japanese movies.
