Infinity War: The climax of the MCU

On April 27, the most expected movie of the year was premiered, the Marvel's mega blockbuster "Avengers: Infinity War", the crossover of the superheroes of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) where the Avengers and other heroes give their all confronting the powerful Thanos in his quest to possess the six Infinity Stones.

10 years for the most epic event

"Infinity War" is the result of 10 years of films that have been building a whole cinematic universe, whose climax is here. It doesn't mean that the end of the saga is near (In fact, I think there doesn't seem to be a final thought...) but it is undoubtedly the outcome of an important part of these stories.

When I say it is the "most epic" event I don't exaggerate, it's the most exciting movie of the whole MCU, it has much more tension than other Marvel films, impressive combats and an incredible plot, besides being the closing of a stage of the saga.

Thanos was referenced in previous films as a fearsome character with great power, in "The Avengers" he appears in the post-credits scene revealing his conection with the Chitauri invasion, in "Guardians of the Galaxy" he was seen giving orders to Ronan and as the Gamora and Nebula's father, then he was seen in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" deciding to fight himself for his goal (indicating that something big was coming). Now it will go in search of the six Infinity Stones, which had quite a leading role in this universe. The Space Stone in "Captain America: The First Avengers" and "The Avengers"; the Mind Stone in "Avengers: Age of Ultron"; the Reality Stone in "Thor: The Dark World"; the Power Stone in "Guardians of the Galaxy"; and the Time Stone in "Doctor Strange". All these films have been warning us about what was approaching in "Avengers: Infinity War".

The best villain of the whole MCU

It's curious to say this because in the post I made about "Black Panther" (in spanish) I also mentioned that his antagonists (Klaue and Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan and Andy Serkis respectively) are one of the few well-developed villains that the MCU has had (Come on, examples like Malekith or Ronan left a lot to be desired) but right now, I'm sure Thanos is the best villain Marvel Studios has done so far. This character has an interesting personality, remarkable reasons that lead him to do what he does and a duality that makes him more human and realistic.

Unlike other villains in this universe, The Mad Titan (nickname given to Thanos in some comics) is not another monotonous character who only wants "much power", "reign in the universe", "destroy everything", "revenge" "," riches ", no, he has a purpose that goes far beyond all that and has to do with his way of thinking, which makes him a more interesting and surprising antagonist than most.

Another point that makes him an interesting villain is, as I said before, his duality, the human side that is seen in him, with the feelings he demonstrates and his reactions to the different events happening in the story. Actually some people says that Thanos is who really does the Hero's journey in the case of this movie.

In addition to everything I mentioned, his duality and the reasons that lead him to take the path he takes,he also has what every villain must have, an imposing attitude that makes you say "wow". The behavior of the character and what he does in different situations shows hardness and makes it possible to feel dread of his presence, besides the typical well-chosen phrases which also make you say "Oh god, it is incredible".

Josh Brolin was in charge of giving life to this character, curiously he is also Cable, the antagonist of "Deadpool 2", both characters are from Marvel Comics, but each one is in a different cinematic universe now

Every character is well-included

When I say it, I don't mean that everyone has the same time on the screen (it's not easy to do that when you have more than 20 characters), I mean that each one brings its own essence to IW: for example, Guardians of the Galaxy are the funny part of the film, Spider-man brings a sympathetic and charismatic touch, Captain America is still the firm and serious part, or Thor is kept with the same spirit of "Thor: Ragnarok", being the parody of a serious hero with funny situations.

A good connection between protagonists

The way the characters meet each other also gives a nice touch to this film, remember that for the first time in an Avengers movie, the Guardians of the Galaxy are there, in addition characters like Dr. Strange or the Wakandian warriors are integrated , also Spider-man who although he had already appeared with the rest of the team, he had not had a true formal presentation. Obviously the producers wanted to give a fun touch to these meetings.

Although this detail is certainly minor and partly irrelevant, it is something a fan of this Cinematic Universe may like, it was something liked in "The Avengers" and that for many, missed in "Avengers: Age of Ultron".

An epic soundtrack

Although at some moment I considered the IW Soundtrack a bit far-fetched, I think they use it much better than other Marvel films, this time it contributes more to scenes of tension and emotion.

I do not compare it to "Guardians of the Galaxy" or its sequel because I know they are in a higher musical level. But you can be sure that it is better than most of these movies.

Remember that in the Phase One of the MCU, the films did not used the soundtrack as well as they could, this was a very secondary resource, but they have been improving little by little and this movie is a good example of that.

Good action scenes

The action scenes were very well made, even though it depends heavily on "non-physical" attacks created by CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) as power beams, mystical attacks, etc. Something similar to the DC movie "Man of Steel", where they have action scenes even with characters that fly most of the time, have superhuman strength and lasers eyes.

"Not so good" things

There was some other detail that I would like to mention, although they are not really bad points, but things that subjectively I would have preferred them to be different.

The Stark Technology

I remember that with "Iron Man 2", the director Jon Favreau increased the level of Tony Stark's technology to make it more remarkable, because after the first movie, other films had imitated that style. Nevertheless, in my opinion, his technology remained credible, non-existent in real life, but credible.

Now in IW, I see again a change in their technology, much more radical, and to be honest, I dislike it. Stark's suit is now much more advanced. Certainly the design is visually more attractive and allows the character is not overshadowed by the technology of Wakanda, but sacrificed the realistic side he had with the whole concept of "Nanotechnology" which was introduced in a very suddenly way.

In the other hand, that same concept of "Nanotechnology" implemented in its technology also makes that, as they say around there, it can do everything that Tony Stark or the screenwriters of the film need.

Little problems with the CGI

As I said before, the action scenes were good even with the strong use of CGI, and that's not really bad, in fact Thanos was very well recreated by computer, but this does not compensate the amount of time these effects are used. The film requires so many effects by computer that it comes a little annoying, because although they are good effects, they are not enough good to be throughout the film. A film that perfectly mixes the live-action with the CGI is "Avatar" by James Cameron.

Some details with the script

The story is very well constructed and has several interesting twists, but there were some points where it is easy to see that they used mediocre solutions for some situations and thus facilitate production, like some weird connector, an implausible reaction or some poorly explained event . Of course, if I give examples, I would fall into spoilers, but when you see them, you will realize it.

So...

When I went to watch "Avengers: Infinity War", I expected to watch an exciting and funny movie. And at the end I was totally satisfied, "Hitting jumps" (as my little cousin said jokingly) and I did not stop talking about the movie with my friends for some days.
