While i can see some benefit to their being multiple tv-on-demand providers, it could have bad consequences of putting us back in that situation where cable became ludicrously expensive. I think most people have quite enjoyed just paying $8 to netflix for the past couple years. In the end i think a lot of people will start torrenting again.
