Poetic Film Review: We're Not Angels (Mi nismo anđeli, 1992)

In the midst of war's destructive reign,

But Angel and Devil, mischievous foes,

The cast, a formidable ensemble of skill,
Breathed life into characters, their roles fulfill.

Yet what truly sets this film apart,

Shielded from the horrors that befell.

For Serbian audiences yearning for escape,
This film brought laughter, a welcomed tape.

"We Are Not Angels" became a hit,
Its popularity transcending the war's split.
Even in Croatia, it found a place,
With dialogue lines entering the common embrace.

Director Dragojević, his success he'd claim,
With films that tackled war's sinister flame.
Yet this comedy remains his most renowned,
A testament to the joy it has found.

Sequels would follow, a testament to its fame,
But "We Are Not Angels" remains the name.
A film that defied the proverb's decree,
Creating art amidst a troubled plea.
