Poetic Film Review: The White Suit (Belo odelo, 1999)
In the world of Serbian cinema, Lazar Ristovski shines,
Playing grand roles and producing films that capture hearts and minds.
But in his directorial debut, 'The White Suit' fell short,
With a thin plot and lackluster ending, it failed to truly transport.
Set in a small town in Montenegro, a tale of love and loss,
Savo Tiodorović's fantasies shattered by a telegram's cost.
As he embarks on a journey, a white suit in hand,
He meets eccentric characters on a train across the land.
Ristovski's double role as Savo and Vuko impresses with skill,
But the film's attempt to emulate Kusturica's style falls ill.
Radmila Shegoleva as Karmen fails to ignite the screen,
Leaving the film as merely watchable, not the romantic dream.
Despite its flaws, 'The White Suit' offers a glimpse of escapism rare,
A departure from the bleak realities that often fill the Serbian air.
Ristovski's passion for the project shines through in parts,
But ultimately, it falls short and fails to capture our hearts.
With a rating of 3/10, 'The White Suit' may not be a hit,
But it serves as a reminder of the highs and lows of Serbian cinema's wit.
Lazar Ristovski's talent still shines bright,
But in the realm of directing, he may need to adjust his sight.
