Poetic Film Review: A Home at the End of the World (2004)
In the tumult of a start that seemed to flee,
Colin Farrell's prowess on the screen did see.
But Hollywood's fickle heart was cold and mean,
To an actor of such talent and sheen.
"Alexander" brought him low, a film that failed,
A bisexual hero, with a wig that sailed.
Yet in "A Home at the End of the World,"
Farrell found a role, to which he gave the world.
Cleveland in '67, the stage was set,
A tale of youth, of love, and of regret.
A brother's loss, a journey through the years,
Bobby's path, through drugs and tears.
Jonathan, a friend, with brains and heart,
Together, they'd grow, apart and apart.
New York's gay scene, a world unknown,
Baker Bobby, Jonathan's growth shown.
The dynamic of desire, a child's dream,
A complex web, love's unique scheme.
Clare, a friend, a tie that binds,
Three souls entwined, a story finds.
Like "The Hours," it navigates same-sex love,
Yet in its brevity, it finds a way to move.
Mayer's direction, a debut bold,
A brisk pace, a story untold.
Pop music's backdrop, a contrast bright,
To somber plot, an uplifting light.
Kindness and good, a fairy tale's cheer,
Engaging the viewer, through a year.
Yet gaps in plot, a narrative's void,
A separation unexplained, leaving a crowd.
Clichés at the end, a weakness shown,
A film watchable, but ultimately alone.
In the annals of indie cinema's fight,
A poignant reminder, of what's not quite right.
Colin Farrell, his acting strong,
A Hollywood star, in a film that's not long.
