After Hours - "Why don't you just go home?"

This is the type of movie that can have different interpretations. At one point in the story, I was thinking that everything we were seeing was a lie, something similar to what we see in the movie The Game with Michael Douglas or The Truman Show with Jim Carrey, although on a less extreme version of course.

The story is about a normal guy who is quite bored with his life and decided to do something different for once. He chats with a girl in a coffee place and later on, he goes to visit her on the other side of the town. From this point forward his night will become more and more twisted with all sorts of crazy things happening to this poor fellow.

I might have watched too many Black Mirror episodes and scifi content in general, but my early theory while watching the movie was that this guy was trapped in a simulation or other similar system. I thought this was the case because every time he tried to return to his home, something happened that prevented it. Almost as if the action of returning home was blocked somehow, and in the ending, we see something in the computer that I thought was a confirmation of this theory, but now I am not so sure.

It is impossible to watch this movie and not ask ourselves questions about the nature of what we are seeing, it is a dream? is he dying? is this real or a simulation? We all agree that bizarre things can happen on any night, but in this case, it is hard to imagine all of this happening especially because all of the characters are regular people.

The entire film is quite bizarre and surreal but for me, it was enjoyable in a weird way. It kept me entertained for the entire hour and a half, and I found myself wanting to see what else would happen to this guy.

Even though there are some scenes that can be funny, these scenes are the exception. This movie belongs to the black comedy genre but more than funny I find it weirdly entertaining. I would recommend this film for people who are looking for a very original, bizarre and ultimately absorbing story.

• Original and entertaining plot.
• Good soundtrack while the guy is running through the streets at night.

The worst

• Not clear if everything was real or not.
• The level of absurdity might have been too much in some cases.
