Solo is getting close!!

(Relax - no spoilers here!!)

So, this is the thing - I've actually been avoiding everything I can about the new Star Wars Solo film. Seriously, I haven't even seen a trailer. Like a child, when they come on in the theater, I close my eyes and cover my ears. I really don't want to know anything about it so I can (hopefully) be amazed.

I think a part of me hopes that I can blown away again like I was when I saw the first Star Wars at the age of 6, though I realize that's a tall order. Only a handful of films in my life have done that and as we get older, it becomes an ever tougher prospect. I know it's not likely that Solo will blow me away, but I do think the less I know, the more I'll enjoy it. Of course, this also means I have to go see it opening day or stay off of social media where inconsiderate and downright douchebaggy peeps will intentionally or unintentionally ruin something or several somethings for everyone else.

I did allow myself to read a few reviews, being very careful to avoid anything remotely suggesting even the slightest spoilers. I was pretty successful in not getting keyed in on anything with the exception of learning that one of the female characters is played by an actress I'm quite fond of from a very popular HBO show. I'm guessing EVERYONE who reads this already knows who I'm talking about, but that's how diligent I've been about avoiding everything I can about this film. And from what I've read so far - the word is pretty much all good. The closest to a negative I heard was "A lot of fun if a bit predicable." If that's the worst anyone has to say, I think we're in for a great ride!

So, I do have high hopes. The original trilogy left an indelible impression on me. I've enjoyed all the others to greater and lesser degrees, in a couple cases seeing past myriad flaws to take comfort and satisfaction in the expansion of that world I'm so fond of. For the record, my favorite since the original trilogy was Rogue One - all the more reason to hope for big things from this spin-off!!
