... LAST NIGHT ... IN THE GALAXY FAR,FAR AWAY ...
Yesterday was a cold and sunny Monday, freezing in the morning, fresh around noon ... and it was the last day for The Rise of Skywalker in my favorite movie theater, the last of the old ones, in the center of the city of Pula. I'm a grumpy old man, so I'm inclined to despise those shopping mall cinema things ... along with the shopping malls in general ...
... and so I went to see another Star Wars movie ... and like always in these occasions ... I enjoyed the colors, the spaceships, the galaxy, some of the aliens visible for short moments during all those boring and mindless human interactions ... I go to see these movies like one goes to see the New Year's fireworks or the doomsday meteor shower ... so I got what expected ... but hey - what a dumb movie ... what a dumb, dumb piece of expensive spectacle ... so dumb, dumb, dumb ... and that's great :D because I like this lovely word - Dumb ... Dumb -Dumb - Dumb ... Dumb - Dumb - Dumb, it makes me feel like singing...that's why I like dumb movies :D ... sometimes ... they make me happy ... and joyful ...and life becomes a Musical ... sometimes ... and before continuing about the movie ... and movies ... a few words about the photographs in this post. I made them after the movie, in the theater, around the theater, and all around Pula ... while watching the movie I thought about a movie related post, but without photographs, I wasn't much inspired, really ... so when I took a few shots of the festive decorations and atmosphere, and saw how nicely they fit in the Science Fiction discourse - I was ready to write this sort of rambling cinema rumination.
This is the first shot I took inside the movie theater ... and from here on ... I looked at everything from an SF prospective, I almost felt a lightsaber in my hand :D although the force is wasted in me ...
Now, I would like to tell you about my relation with the Star Wars in general - I'm a Trekky ... he he, well, almost ... I'm to lazy and inconsistent to be anything besides my slightly changing self (I tried to be a Punk in high school, but got bored pretty soon ... then I tried to make some kind of Neo hippy of myself and that didn't work either) ...but when it comes to Science Fiction, Star Wars was never a big thing for me, and don't get me wrong - I ADORE THE FIRST TWO MOVIES, those from 1977 and 1980, but I always experienced them like fairy tale adventures movies, I was never fascinated by the SF aspects of those things, and since I like SF more than those adventures, I liked the boring Star Trek more.
And in my childhood SF memories, old movies like Soylent Green, Planet of the Apes and one obscure British TV Show " Blake's Seven " resonate much more than all those Star Something universes. But I always watched the Star Wars movies. And I enjoyed them ... even when they are on their worst, like in this last movie ... because some creative people, somewhere there in America, always create enough interesting creatures, robots and planets to keep me engaged ... even in the dumbest scenarios ... and shallowest ... or stupidest ... psychoanalysis attempts, agonizing self help recycling, or cringey and empty pathos ...
And also, I despise the importance that is given to " being a fan" ... It's ok to like something, be inspired by a work of art ... but in my opinion, is better to take this as a stepping stone for creating your own imaginary universe, possibly made of many influences and your own experiences, instead of endlessly jerking around some money grabbing franchise ... I heard so many overlong and boring analysis of something that is essentially a shallow, disposable product that offers nothing really exiting ...
:D That's why I'll stop talking about this movie now ...
... and the rest of the post ...
... will be a voyage through the shiny Christmas galaxy ...
... with changing, chameleon planets...
... hanging in the sky ...
... and colorful wormhole passages ...
... to distant galaxies ...
... and unknown dimensions ...
... but ... the little red man ... or robot ... on the following photograph ...
... made me think about one more thing related to this movie ... in my childhood, growing in the socialist, wannabe communist country, I saw a lot of charming, but ultimately shitty partisan's movies that share a lot of aesthetic choices with The Rise of Skywallker ... the forceful attempts to create myths out of shallowness, the kitschy closeups with dirt, scars, tears and such and the absurd, overblown pathos that must be laughable if you are not seriously demented.
And now :) back to the city ...
... waiting for a miracle ...
... of the New Year ...
... and with this little green man, the ultimate extraterrestrial :D is time to end this post ... have a good day ... or night ... wherever in the universe you are ... as always in these ramblings on Steemit, the GIFs and photographs ... are my work ... THE END.
